Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Carl Goldberg Models Gentle Lady - 2-Meter R/C Sailplane, SP-1

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This 78 and 1/4 inch wingspan glider is legendary for it's performance and still flown today. This model came from the estate of a very active and particular early aircraft kit collector. It is like factory-new inside and has not been started. Complete with all parts, plans and decals (if originally included). NOTE: this kit was factory packed in a rugged and sturdy box. The model will be shipped with this box only (no external box) unless you request otherwise. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. Needless to say, Goldberg's models are of the highest quality.

Aurora Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina, 1/74, 374-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare, first issue artwork from about 1955-56. This was a fine effort by Aurora for that time and an impressive model when assembled. Features retracting pontoons and rotating props. Includes correct early logo instructions which show the clear 'Triangle World' stand. This correct stand is included. This must be one of the first instances of the 'Triangle' stand being used as it is normally associated with oval 'Famous Fighter' logo kits. Molded in gloss silver and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: one small "US NAVY" decal is cut out and missing. The rest of the decals are intact and in 'very good+' condition. The box displays better than the 'good' rating but is graded as such because of there is general wear as shown, fading on the right short side panel and some creasing on the lower long side panel. It is interesting to note that the early Aurora PBY issue has at least three small variations to the box top. The very first issue says '1/4 SCALE MODEL' at the top right. Clearly, this kit is not 1/48 scale and someone at Aurora corrected it. Following that, there are two known corrections: early and late. On the early version, the '1/4' was blotted out with a dark blue oval or circle and '5/32' was added after the word 'SCALE.' It was now correct, but the appearance was not completely professional. This box is the later version - on the next box order, they kept the '1/4' blotted out but added a proper looking '5/32' in front of the blot.

Monogram Racing Duesenberg Slot Car With Tiger X-200 Motor - Race As Stock Or Classic, 1/24, SR2406-698

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very rare model for the advanced Monogram collector or slot car enthusiast. Dated 1964. When the slot car craze took hold, Monogram boldly introduced nine very well engineered 1/24 and 1/32 kits. The models were so well done and expensive that they did not sell well; $7 was a small fortune back when most models were between 29 and 98 cents. The Monogram Mercedes claims to be the "Most Complete Detailed Racing Model - Ready to Assemble and Go!" and it was no idle boast. Features light-weight brass chassis that is strong and rigid, precision steel threaded-end axles, bronze bearings, steel drawn crown gear, nylon pickup, braided pickup brushes, brass screws, nut and other hardware, precision lightweight aluminum machined wheels with threaded hubs, powerful new tiger X-200 12V motor, Tiger Traction rubber racing tires with complete Goodyear details and more. The car parts are molded in blue, black, white, chrome plate and clear plastic. Inside, the interior display cardboard and plastic is in 'very good++' condition. All of the parts that were originally factory sealed are still factory sealed except the motor. The motor is NOS (New Old Stock) and has never been run. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried 100% complete and includes 'near mint+' condition decals. Includes amazing 'mint' condition instructions and the " Tuning Tips / Alignment / International Racing Colors" booklet. Please NOTE that the box has correct and neat repairs to three closed split corners. They were repaired from the inside with light cardstock and book binding cement. The entire line of Monogram Slot Cars consisted of a 1/32 MGA Sports Car, 1/32 Deuce Roadster and the following 1/24 scale vehicles: '55 Chevy Hardtop, '40 Ford Pickup, Duesenberg, '34 Ford Coupe, '36 Ford Coupe, '58 T-Bird and Mercedes 540K. If you know your Monogram cars, you can see that Monogram wisely utilized the molds of pre-existing Four Star kits to make these motorized versions from.

Lindberg F7U-1 Cutlass - (F7U1), 1/48, 510-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

1956 or '57 Gaedke artwork with three aircraft and the carrier. Molded in medium blue and clear and includes decals for the box art aircraft including red and white checkerboards for the rudders. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please note that the box displays better than the 'good+' rating but is graded as such because there is clear tape on the long sides and also tape pull damage to one side as well as general wear. Dating Lindberg kits is problematic to a near complete lack of release information; early catalogs normally do not have dates, and there are no dates on early boxes or instructions & decals. However, by records kept when the kits were purchased new, we know this kit was issued either in 1956 or 1957.

Lindberg F-86D Sabre Jet Fighter - with First Logo, 1/48, 522-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very rare first Lindberg issue with the 'script' logo and 'narrow' box. From the mid 1950s with dramatic Ray Gaedke artwork. Molded in high gloss silver and clear. Includes script logo decals and box logo instructions which was not unusual. The box was originally numbered 522-79 and has been over-stamped with a factory '98' for the price. Lindberg always used up any old stock and never seemed to waste any boxes, parts, decals or instructions. Paul Lindberg's consistent year-to-year bottom line profits are testimony to this. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Esoteric US Navy Macchi M.16 Sub-Based Float Plane - 1920s (M-16) - Bagged, 1/72

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Sold

Still factory sealed. Possibly the smallest aircraft to serve in the US Navy. During the 1920s, the Navy expressed interest in submarine based aircraft as the British had experimented with during WWI. They tried domestic models as well as one German and the Macchi, which they purchased three of. The experiments proved troublesome and the idea was dropped; no one knows what happened to the aircraft. Well detailed kit is typical high Esoteric quality. Features metal detail parts.
