Metal and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Aurora Martin B-26 Marauder, 1/46, 371-259

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$225

Very rare first issue from the early 1950s. When Aurora moved to the West Hempstead plant, they planned a series of very large scale bombers. All kits released up to this time had been small. Aurora's instincts were correct, and the B-26, B-25 and B-29 were a big sales success. This box art was done by Jim Cox and was only used for about one year, making it very rare. The kit has never been started and is inventoried 100% complete with the original tissue paper, all parts, large clear stand, instructions and decals.

Revell DD-931 USS Forrest Sherman - 'S' Issue, 1/320, H352-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$275

One and only issue dated 1958 of this very rare kit with great box art. The box is in "Excellent" condition with very nice color and gloss, four solid corners, no repairs, no price tags or tag marks, no tape or tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape of course), no fading, no stains and no tears. The only flaws are a light crease at the left upper side and light general shelf wear. Features two missiles with removable boosters, swiveling and elevating launcher, crew of three and instrumentation equipment. The missiles are molded in white and the launcher in medium gray. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Decals and perfectly flat and intact in 'near mint+' condition with the only flaw being very slight age yellowing. The instructions are also 'near mint+' with the only flaws being typical age yellowing.

Comet Douglas C-54 / DC-4 Skymaster - 6 Inch Wingspan Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/187, B6

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$29

Rare 1945 issue. Features detailed three view plans with cutting patterns and sanding templates as well as painting color tips, two sheets of printwood and wood stock. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, plans and also basic instructions on the back of the box. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type models with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers, such as Comet issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits.

Dependable, sturdy, and reportedly docile, this primary trainer was developed soon after WW II, according to one source from a design concept created during the Occupation. A basic, utilitarian design sometimes compared to the DeHavilland Chipmunk. Several examples reported in civilian GA and aerobatic use as recently as 2017.

Hudson Miniatures 1913 Mercer Raceabout Lil' Old Timers 'Quickie Kit', 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$42

Rare. When the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' burst upon the hobby scene in 1951, they started a hobby revolution. Plastic model kits were not new in 1951, but successful mass marketing of plastic kits was new. The sensation swept the country, and Gowland & Revell could not make the kits fast enough. The fact that the public was buying these models shocked the successful hobby establishment. One such manufacture was Hudson Miniatures. In the 1940s, Hudson had established a name in making 1/16 scale 'Old Timer' models of automobiles. These were excellent kits with wood and metal parts, but a high degree of skill was required to carve and finish the wood parts. In the late 1940s, they added some injection molded plastic parts (usually acetate wheels) to the series but did not consider a completely plastic kit. When Hudson saw what was happening with the Highway Pioneers, he began to design his own 1/32 scale line called 'Lil Old Timers', which hit the stores in 1954. An early paper fold-out catalog shows 18 models including some real gems like the 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1911 Brush Delivery Truck and 1906 Columbia Electric Car just to name a few. The line was bought by Revell a short time after it's release, and Revell did reissue some (but not all) of the kits. As you would expect from Hudson, this is a nice kit with excellent moldings and detail for the time. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. The Mercer was perhaps the most famous sports car of it's day, and it can be successfully argued that it was America's first sports car. The 30 horsepower 'T' head 4 cylinder engine sped it along at over 80 miles per hour. A 1914 Mercer clocked 112 mph at Daytona Beach - no mean feat for that age.

Revell Convair B-36 Giant Bomber - Pre-'S' Issue, 1/184, H205-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$149

1954 issue of this classic kit. Molded in the correct gloss silver and clear and with the famous clear 'Revelving Swivel Base.' The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. NOTE: the box would grade higher than 'excellent' but there is a very, very light stain below the front of the aircraft. It is difficult to see. This kit has an interesting history. The first issue came out in the 'short' hardbox that had the full version of this artwork with a port and ocean scene in the background. The first version also had the one-piece stand arm and the instructions that reflected that. The second issue had the same artwork, but with a completely different background that gave better contrast. There may be a 'one-piece' stand arm version in this revised artwork, but I have yet to see one.
