Heller Breguet 693, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$29

This is a very early Heller issue with no part number, very high gloss box with wrap-around full artwork and the yellow-backed Heller Logo. Very nicely molded and finely detailed. Contains early small catalog. Never started. Factory sealed bag with decals and instructions. Sleek and beautiful, the Breguet 693 was a fast low-level twin engine attack bomber with a crew of two. Miniature Masterpieces Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, 1/48, K502-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Mint

$54

This kit was found in the stock room of a long-closed hobby shop and is in factory-new condition. Rare early 1950s original issue. Molded in brown. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the carriage, it includes horses, the General, his lady, driver and a display base. The model includes detailed instructions (rare for the early 1950s) and a wonderful (and long) history of this particular carriage. Never started. The parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and includes mint instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare. And from J. Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in South Bend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historic horse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.

Hawk Howard Ike Racer - Lincoln International Issue - Bagged, 1/48

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

$38

From the 1950s. Rare kit for the advanced Hawk collector. Still factory sealed but the header panel is in 'good' condition. I have shown the best side; the reverse has a price tag tear. This kit was 'Made in the British Empire by Lincoln International.' Lincoln was an injection molding firm that issued models as a side-line. Kits were made in Great Britain, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand and sold in many more. They reissued at least 13 Hawk kits. I have dated these late 1950s because the R3C-1 Army Racer (also released in this series) still has wheels. Later issues had floats.

Air Lines Miles Magister - (Ex-Frog), 1/72, 3900

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$19

From quality Frog molds. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing one of two tiny canopies. It has been inventoried with all other parts included and has decals and instructions. Box art is by the famous Jo Kotula who did 1930s covers for the magazine 'Model Airplane News' and later the Aurora box art of the late 1950s. Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. There are one or two trading cards on each box which show the boxart but not the advertising/logo. Some kits contain a Testors color painting guide also, but it is not specific to any model.

Orange Crush-Revell 1915 Ford Model T, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$59

Very rare kit with a fascinating history. Around 1958/59, Orange Crush of Mexico offered a promotion. They offered free, colorful, plastic model cars if you collected correctly-marked Orange Crush bottle caps. The models are 1/32 scale Revell Highway Pioneer series - although there is no mention of Revell or Lodela anywhere on the box. Orange Crush had the boxes and even the instructions specially made for them with no mention of a manufacturer. They were never given numbers. The boxes were very thin and fragile cardboard. This has contributed to wear and you must be very cautious with them. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and the instructions are sealed in the bag as well. You could redeem your caps two ways - at the Orange Crush truck and at a Modelandia Hobby House. The box sides show the 18 cars in the series. Orange Crush also released two full-color booklets and a complete paint set for the cars. A colorful cardboard box held 7 colors of paint in glass bottles, complete with 'Orange Crush' screw-on caps! The entire promotion was done in coordination with Modelandia Hobby House which had up to 19 stores. Modelandia's name appears on each of the boxes and the paint as well. Robina S.A. was the bottler or distributor of Orange Crush in Mexico at that time. The box side lists the other 18 kits with small color pictures of each and shows three sizes of OC - Family Size (Familiar), Grand (Grande) and Normal. You could also obtain models with Titan bottle caps. Titan was also bottled by Robina and came in large (Titan) and smaller (Titancito) sizes and apparently more than one flavor. We do not know how Orange Crush had access to the plastic kits or who sealed the internal bags with the Crush instructions inside them. We can assume that it may have been Lodela, since they would have had access to the Revell molds. It is not know for how long the promotion lasted, but Orange Crush was one of the most dominant soft drinks in Mexico at that time. Here is one clue: some boxes claim that Modelandia had 13 locations; other boxes, which obviously came later on, claim 19 locations. This may indicate that this promotion went on for a significant amount of time.
