Airfix Boeing 314 Pan Am Clipper - 'Dixie' or BOAC 'Berwick', 1/144, 04172

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Dated 1988 and originally from the 1970s. Very finely molded and detailed kit for that time with 76 parts. Has decals for both aircraft. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats.

Monogram F-19 Stealth Fighter 'The Mystery Plane', 1/48, 5824

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Rare large scale version. 1987 first and only issue of Monogram's rather costly blunder. 'Stealth' was on everyone's lips in those years and several model companies took a stab at what the plane might look like. Monogram's kit was quite off the mark and was quickly discontinued when the real aircraft appeared in photographs. NOTE: this kit has very minor and neat assembly. The cockpit tub is built and glued into the top fuselage half to 'professional' quality. The tub is painted to 'excellent' quality. There is no other assembly and no other painting. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Paramount The Royal Barouche With Coachman & Grays, 1/30, V2

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Unusual early 1960s big-scale kit by Paramount (Great Britain). Very well detailed for that time with over 80 parts featuring two Windsor Grey horses with very complete flexible harnesses, Coachman figure, optional up or down shade/top for the passenger and much more. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes assembly drawings, text instructions and history. In the 1960s, The Royal Barouche was used each year by H.M The Queen Mother on the occasion of Trooping of the Colours at the Queen's birthday parade. The box art shows the Royal Barouche being driven in the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. Normally Greys are used, but as in the case of the single horse Royal vehicles, The Bays are sometimes used. The Barouche was a vehicle that was first seen in England around 1767 but did not become popular until much later. Similar to a coach body without its upper portion, the Barouche is an open carriage with a high driving seat and hood, no unlike an open landau. It was designed to carry four to six persons. The seats faced one another inside and in fine weather this vehicle was considered to the most delightful of all carriages of the period. Barouches were often driven by their owners as vehicles of their own rather than by their coachman, which gave them a distinction not shared by other comparable carriages.

Aurora Lockheed AH-56A Cheyenne 'Copter, 1/72, 502-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1972 'Big A' Canadian issue. In the late 1960s, Aurora realized that it had to improve mold quality to stay in the model business; this AH-56 is one of those highly improved kits. It is nicely molded for that time with recessed panel lines and good detail inside and out. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. NOTE: one small part is a lighter color plastic; it is from an earlier issue of this same kit. The box shows better than 'good' but is graded that because there is age foxing. These later molds were of high quality, but it was too few kits and too late for their reputation.
