Miniature Masterpieces Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, 1/48, K502-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

This kit was found in the stock room of a long-closed hobby shop and is in factory-new condition. It does have light wear from the factory as shown. Rare early 1950s original issue. Molded in brown. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the carriage, it includes horses, the General, his lady, driver and a display base. The model includes detailed instructions (rare for the early 1950s) and a wonderful (and long) history of this particular carriage. Never started. The parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and includes mint instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare. And from J. Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in SouthBend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historichorse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.

Lindberg PT Boat, 1/60, 701-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts complete and includes flag sheet, decals and instructions. This kit has a very interesting history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull, cardstock deck but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. But the world was not ready for this type of kit and dealers were hesitant to carry it - which resulted in low sales. Gorden Varney sold the molds for the kit to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he went to an injection molded hull, colorful cardstock 'wood' deck, plastic parts, metal stanchions and other metal stock an needed (prop shafts, etc). This is that model.
