Life-Like 1908 Lanchester, 09463

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1970s Life-Like issue from quality Pyro molds; please see the end of this description for details. Well detailed kit for the time which features detailed chassis and suspension with exhaust and steering linkage, full interior, complete motor, removable hood and parts molded in yellow, clear, brass plate and with rubber tires. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. On the side of the box it says 'Made Under License From Pyro Plastics Corp, Union, New Jersey', so clearly the molds came from Pyro. Part layout and design is identical to the other 'Brass Car' kit issues from Pyro. Also interesting is the first Life-Like part number for this kit was C463. This number has no relation to any Life-Like part number, but is certainly a Pyro style part number code. In October of 1969 Pyro issued C462 (one number less), the 1906 Renault. Pyro never issued the Lanchester under the Pyro name. But clearly, when Life-Like obtained manufacturing license in the early 1970s, the molds for this kit were owned by Pyro.

Entex Antoinette 1908 Monoplane Early Birds - (ex Taimei), 1/72, 8520B

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Fuji also released this kit from the Taimei molds and since Entex lists the kits as being made in Japan, it is likely that Fuji molded the kits for Entex. Some of these molds found their way to Renwal, where they may have been the inspiration for the famous Aeroskin series.

Hudson Miniatures 1903 Rambler Old Timers, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very well detailed large 1/16 kit from 1949. Features plastic wheels & lights, a large number of wooden parts cut/turned to shape and occasionally metal parts and cardstock. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car. This kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all parts, plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Revell Hawaiian Pilot C3 Freighter 'S' Kit, 1/400, H315-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Original issue from 1955 with beautiful hardbox artwork by Scott Eidon. This is a well detailed kit for that time and an all-time favorite among collectors and builders. Inside, the kit is as new. It has never been started and all small parts are still sealed in the small factory bag. All larger parts are inventoried complete and the kit includes the instructions, decals and flag sheet. I believe that the Matson Line Hawaiian Pilot originally started life as the Navy USS Burleigh C-3 Transport. After the was she became the Oceanic lines SS Sonoma (#2). On July 14, 1953, Hawaiian Pilot collided with SS Jacob Luckenbach (another C-3 freighter, ex-Sea Robin), off San Francisco. Luckenbach sank in 30 minutes; the crew was safely transferred to Hawaiian Pilot and there was no loss of life.

Comet Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, 1/88, PL30-39

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very rare 1950s second issue. Still includes a factory-sealed tube of Comet cement, which amazing enough is still good. The kit features recessed panel detail, clear canopy, detailed engine front and the Comet 'teardrop' shaped display stand. NOTE: this kit is a builder because it has been started. It has 'excellent' to 'professional' quality subassembly as described: fuselage halves assembled; wing halves assembled (but not glued to the fuselage). There is no other assembly. Inventoried and all parts, decals and instructions are present. NOTE: some of the small gun barrels are broken off the wings and missing; they are easy to make with pulled sprue or stock plastic. In the 1950s Comet made a beautiful line of small scale aircraft and missile models with colorful boxes. When Comet went out of business, these molds saw action for years with Aurora who reissued some (but not all) of them.
