Rare. When the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' burst upon the hobby scene in 1951, they started a hobby revolution. Plastic model kits were not new in 1951, but successful mass marketing of plastic kits was new. The sensation swept the country, and Gowland & Revell could not make the kits fast enough. The fact that the public was buying these models shocked the successful hobby establishment. One such manufacture was Hudson Miniatures. In the 1940s, Hudson had established a name in making 1/16 scale 'Old Timer' models of automobiles. These were excellent kits with wood and metal parts, but a high degree of skill was required to carve and finish the wood parts. In the late 1940s, they added some injection molded plastic parts (usually acetate wheels) to the series but did not consider a completely plastic kit. When Hudson saw what was happening with the Highway Pioneers, he began to design his own 1/32 scale line called 'Lil Old Timers', which hit the stores in 1954. An early paper fold-out catalog shows 18 models including some real gems like the 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1911 Brush Delivery Truck and 1906 Columbia Electric Car just to name a few. The line was bought by Revell a short time after it's release, and Revell did reissue some (but not all) of the kits. As you would expect from Hudson, this is a nice kit with excellent moldings and detail for the time. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. The Mercer was perhaps the most famous sports car of it's day, and it can be successfully argued that it was America's first sports car. The 30 horsepower 'T' head 4 cylinder engine sped it along at over 80 miles per hour. A 1914 Mercer clocked 112 mph at Daytona Beach - no mean feat for that age.

Large 1/20 scale kit from ex-Hubley molds. One of a series of popular and desirable metal and plastic kits reissued by 'Scale Models' (and earlier from Gabriel). The metal castings are very well done and detailed. Includes cast metal body, roof, hood, engine, suspension and more, many injection molded parts such as spoke wheels, interior seats and many other details. Includes correct white rubber tires. Features two trees of brass plated parts, steering front wheels, full engine detail, removable hood, detailed exhaust, suspension and driveline, complete interior, flexible engine hoses, numerous woodgrain decals including a full set for the body side, choice of license plates and more. The kit has never been started. All the parts that were in factory sealed bags are still factory sealed. The large metal and white plastic parts were not sealed and have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. The kit is likely from the 1980s.

The Stranraer was one of several successful flying boats designed by RJ Mitchell for the RAF. Experience gained with the Southampton and Scapa flying boats was put to good use in design of the all-metal Stranraer. Although replaced operationally with the Sunderland, examples of this aircraft were used till 1942 and others flew long after WWII was over. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Revell Convair B-36 Giant Bomber - Pre-'S' Issue, 1/184, H205-98

1954 issue of this classic kit. Molded in the correct gloss silver and clear and with the famous clear 'Revelving Swivel Base.' The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. NOTE: the box would grade higher than 'excellent' but there is a very, very light stain below the front of the aircraft. It is difficult to see. This kit has an interesting history. The first issue came out in the 'short' hardbox that had the full version of this artwork with a port and ocean scene in the background. The first version also had the one-piece stand arm and the instructions that reflected that. The second issue had the same artwork, but with a completely different background that gave better contrast. There may be a 'one-piece' stand arm version in this revised artwork, but I have yet to see one.

Pre-S kit from 1954. Early hardbox issue with fantastic artwork. Molded in the correct gloss silver and clear and with the famous clear Revell 'Globe' stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and decals and instructions. Please NOTE: the decals are flat and intact, but have cracking due to being exposed to moisture. The instructions are good but have a very light water stain. The box has significant general wear also. Please see the article (located on this website) on how to save or recreate these decals on your home printer.

Life-size kit from this famous and popular series. Unique kit contains paint in 12 colors, brush, clear eyes and stand. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, paint brush, never used paints and includes display name sticker and instructions. Bachmann Brothers Inc of Philadelphia, PA had three unique plastic kits series. One was Birds of the World, another was Dogs of the World and also Animals of the World. The Birds included Baltimore Oriole, Goldfinch, Bluebird, Scarlet Tanager, Red Headed Woodpecker, Evening Grosbeak, Kinglet, Robin, Parakeet, Barn Swallow, Cardinal, Blue Jay, Hooded Warbler, Pitta, Canary, Bohemian Waxwing, Parrot, Painted Bunting, Owl and Hoopoe. The Dogs included Collie, Basset Hound, Wire Haired Terrier, German Shepherd, Boxer, Pointer, Cocker Spaniel, Poodle, Dalmatian and St. Bernard. The Animals line had the Morgan Horse, Lion, Tiger, Squirrel monkey, Deer & Fawn, Panda, Zebra, Leopard and Cow & Calf.

Airfix Ilyushin IL-28 Beagle - China - Poland - Czech Air Forces, 1/72, 490

Type three logo issue with decals for all three air forces. The Beagle was the USSR's first jet bomber, first flying in 1946. As the primary Soviet light bomber, it was used by 15 nations and was built until 1960. An unarmed version of the Il-28 was used to deliver matrices of the principal Soviet newspapers from Moscow to the East for republication there, as well as other high priority mail. Very nicely detailed kit with no rivets, just fine raised panel lines for a realistic model. Features a crew of three, good cockpit and bombardier detail, optional position landing gear, elevating tail guns, separately molded rudder and ailerons and more. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

1/72 scale kit with legendary high LS quality. Builds to a highly accurate and detailed kit. Molded in orange and clear The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. LS was one of the earliest Japanese manufacturers to produce very high quality kits. Some of these molds are still in use by Hasegawa as testament to the LS detail and accuracy. DD-792 USS Callaghan was sunk July 9, 1945, by a Willow configured for kamikaze attack. It has been reported the light construction of the aircraft prevented the ship's AA ammunition proximity fuses from detonating. The type was also reported to have been used by Indonesian forces against Dutch colonial rule in 1947.

Includes two kits. Both are still factory sealed and from Airfix molds. Nicely detailed figures for any diorama near 1/75 and 1/87 (OO and HO) scale. The men are in a useful variety of poses and equipment, including refueling, carrying spanners (two types), positioning bomb, pilot boarding aircraft, serious seeming officers in peaked caps with charts or maps, checking stuff twice. The realistically creased coveralls and flight suits seem a good touch. Just the thing for your diorama of a busy 1/72 Luftwaffe morning. "Mach dein Arbeit gut, Jungs! Wir wollen keine Storungen im Flug!"

The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. U-156 was depth-charged and sunk, March 8, 1943, by a PBY from VP-53, operating out of Trinidad.
