Excellent kit from all new molds includes two SM-3 missiles, one with an 'in flight' configuration display stand (no booster) and the other one with the booster and VLS display base with an open door that the SM-3 has come out of. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. One may wonder why Fine Molds made an SM-3 kit; as it turns out, the SM-3 is Japan's answer to the North Korean ballistic missile threat. Ships equipped with SM-3 cover vast amounts of airspace while Patriot batteries ashore provide a terminal defense. At one point Japan considered also having the SM-3 land-based, called 'Aegis Ashore.' The Aegis Ashore could have covered all of Japan with only three bases.
