Hard-to-find kit of this historic ship. Revell of Germany issue. Measures 22.25 inches long when built. The Great Eastern (originally Leviathan) was the work of English Designer I.K. Brunel. In the 1850s there was a need for large ocean liners to carry the immigrant trade, but none existed. Shipping companies also wanted the interiors of ocean liners to look like hotels, but there simply no space. This ship was to solve that problem. She was launched in 1857 and five times bigger than any other ship of the day! The 22,500 ton Great Eastern was 693 feet long and carried 4000 passenger. Unfortunately, her career was one mishap after another until she found fame by laying the trans-Atlantic cable. Very nicely detailed model. Never started. Very large scale "George" in the desirable Japan Issue. Box and kit are in investment grade condition. It is rumored that these molds were lost when the freighter carrying them sank in the Sea of Japan. Other molds lost on that ship were the 1/32 Oscar, Tony and Raiden (Jack). The box is near mint with very light edge wear at the top only; it is so light that it is not visible in the photo. Inside the model is still sealed in all factory bags. It is molded in the correct dark green, light blue and clear. The large instructions has a beautiful painting of the Shiden on the front. The kit features highly detailed cockpit and engine, removable cowling and optional position canopy, working flaps and drop tank/bomb load. Instructions and decals are as new.

Rare 1954 hardbox issue with 89 cent price extension. This is the early small, thin box format measuring 13.25 x 4.1 x 1 inches. Color and gloss are 'excellent,' all four corners are solid and original, there is no tape or price tags, no marks from tape or tags, no fading and no torn litho. Flaws include very light shelf wear, some corner wear and small scuffs. Inside, the kit is as it left the factory. All parts are molded in gloss medium gray and the small parts and decals are still in the factory sealed small bag. The instructions are excellent.

The Hendon was a RAF night bomber created in response to 1927 Air Ministry specs to replace the Virginia. The Hendon was a large twin engine monoplane of metal construction with fabric covering, making it the first all metal structure monoplane in the RAF. Fairey was no stranger to this type of aircraft, having already made several large monoplanes for record attempts. But the monoplane design was just too new for the minds in the Air Ministry and they opted for twin engine Heyford biplanes instead. 14 Hendons were built for the 38 Squadron. Never started.
