Cragstan Wooden Motorized Electric Boat Model - From 1950s Japan, 1331

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Hand-painted operating 9.5 inch long ready-to-run wooden boat with metal fittings in the original box. This boat is in near-mint condition and appears to have never been run or played with. The only flaw is some minor missing paint at the front and back bottom of the hull. The box is rare and is complete and grades 'very good++'. The original tissue packing paper is included. The boat is all hardwood with a natural stained finish deck, white upper hull and red below the waterline and with a yellow deck house with a red roof. There is a life ring as well as metal hand rails, horn vents and front light (non-operating). The capstan is the on/off switch. Inside the boat is in mint, factory condition. I believe that batteries have never been installed. The large motor, wiring, universal joint, battery holders and contacts and prop shaft all appear as new. Underneath there is an all metal prop and adjustable rudder, again in new condition.

Veco The Apache - 52 inch Wingspan Gas Free Flight National 1st Place Winner, F-5

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Large free flight design by Ralph Ray, who won the National's in his category. Kit is from 1960 or 1961. This model came from the estate of a very active and particular early aircraft kit collector. Ranco Models Kellett YG-1B (XR-2) Autogyro, 1/42

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+++

Sold

Large (17 inch LOA) model of this 1930s craft. The ship had no ailerons, rudder or elevator. Directional control was through a pivoting rotor head. Rotor blades folded for storage. The KD-1 made the worlds first autogyro roof-top landing in May of 1935 at the US Post Office in Philadelphia. The plans say this is the XR-2 and YG-1B. The plans certainly look like the YG-1B Army Craft; the YG-1B was modified with a constant speed rotor and became the YG-1C; it was then redesignated XR-2. This craft is also known as a KD-1; the model will built any of the three. Never started. Complete with all parts, plans and unused tube of glue.

In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Freddie Laker thought he could fly passengers across the 'Pond' at a fraction of the current ticket prices. Using his successful experience from operating one of the most profitable UK charter airlines, Laker battled for years for permission to run his service at 1/3 of what the existing carriers charged. After 6 years, he finally won. On September 26, 1977, the Laker DC-10s began the first daily discount cross Atlantic flights from London to New York. Although Skytrain service has been long discontinued, Laker helped created the regulatory and business model for modern discount airlines, such as Southwest)

Topping Martin P6M-1 SeaMaster - Topping Factory Model - (P6M1), 1/102

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc++

Sold

Rare. Mid 1950s model made by Topping Models of Akron, OH for the Glen Martin Company. Martin presented these to various Navy brass and pilots as a marketing tool for the project. Made in a large 1/102 scale, this SeaMaster is 16 inches long and comes with it's original blue translucent water base which displays the P6M up 'on the step', with the majority of the hull out of the water. This is the early version of the SeaMaster - with the straight, staggered exhaust. On the -2 variant, the exhaust was angled slightly outward and grouped differently. The base and aircraft are 100% original - there has been no repainting and the decals are from the factory. The only decal wear is one the top of the horizontal stabilizer. The paint is excellent with very little wear. At some point, the horizontal stabilizer (a weak point on this model) broke off. It has been repaired and the quality of work is very good. There are no other issues - it is a beautiful model that displays very well. This item must be mailed with insurance.
