Pyro Monitor United States Ironclad, C258-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare early issue of the Monitor alone. Usually this kit is only seen in the release that contains it and the Merrimac. Great hardbox artwork by AJ Rudisill from the late 50s. The Monitor was one of two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862. The Monitor is 10 inches long when built, is a full hull model and includes a display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Please NOTE: the instructions have a short closed tear and a small stain from old tape (which has fallen off); also, one blade is broke from the prop at the base but the blade is present for an easy repair. Although dated, the Pyro Monitor and Merrimac kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg models of the same ships.

Comet Phantom Fury - 32 Inch Wingspan Endurance Competition Flying Airplane, 3207-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1970s reissue of one of the more famous free-flight models of the 1930s. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, quality printwood, stripwood and spars, fully formed wheels and thrust button, nose block, covering tissue, rubber motor, propeller and detailed full size plans with building instructions. Never started and inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Comet Boeing 707 Stratotanker (367-80 - Dash 80), 1/125, PL800-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Comet originally began model production in 1929 with a line of balsa flying models. In the mid-1950s Comet made a beautiful line of small and medium scale aircraft and missile models with colorful boxes. The early issues were in one-piece 'flip-top' boxes, and the later issues and releases were in standard two-piece 'hardboxes' with a lithograph slick glued to the top box. In 1963 Comet sold the plastic kit molds to Aurora, who reissued some but not all of the kits. There were two Boeing 707 models made. This is the two-piece box larger scale (1/125) 'Stratotanker' - not really a tanker model at all, but a nice kit of the famous Dash-80 Prototype Tanker/707, which lead to the world's first commercially-successful airliner. Well molded with fine recessed panel lines, landing gear and prototype decals. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions in 'excellent++' condition.
