James Cox, who did much of the early artwork for Aurora, created a timeless classic for this issue - this artwork was used well into the 1960s and possibly up till the final 'Big A' logo boxes before Aurora's demise. Attributable to the wide range of boats with V-shaped hull, the Flattie, like all popular boats was of a complex historical evolution and structural adaptation to uses and environments. Between 5 and 9 meters in length, the boat was particularly flat and wide in deck. Already present in the waters of the bay around the middle of last century, the Flattie reached its peak in use in 1880-1890. Originally used to carry local products it was later widely used for the collection of oysters and crabs. This was carried out ploughing the depths. With a short, strong net bag, dragged from the boat by a cable.
