Comet Aeronca K Floatplane - 25 inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Airplane Model, 3208-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

1970s reissue of the 1950s kit. Features traditional wood/tissue construction, quality printwood sheets, pre-cut balsa stringers and spars, detailed full size plans, building instructions, clear material for windows, tissue and propeller. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The box looks better than the 'good+' grade but is rated as such because there is age foxing on the reverse side. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

1983 issue of this classic large-scale 'Action Model' from the original 'Four Star' Monogram line. Includes a large and extensive decal sheet that has all checkerboards for 'Contrary Mary' as pictured. Canopy opens and closes to show highly detailed cockpit. Tiny levers under the wings drop 2 bombs. Knob on the bottom rotates and extends/retracts main gear and tail wheel; all gear doors including the tail wheel open and close automatically with the gear. Not only do these features sound great, but they work. My built kit (White Box issue) is 40+ years old and still functions like new. Very nicely detailed. Molded in silver, black and clear. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory bag sealed and still sealed, and the parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.

Very rare one-and-only issue that is complete and never started. Features all parts for stock version, a complete trailer with hitch and a great number of of parts for custom or service versions. Has detailed engine and compartment, opening hood, detailed underside (primarily molded) and complete interior. It includes all the paperwork, which is very rare. The decals are in amazing 'near mint' condition as are the instructions. The color AMT Kandy Kolor flyer is present as well as the AMT "What Did You Think Of This Kit" customer survey card. Molded in white, chrome plate, clear, red-tinted clear and with rubber tires, metal chassis to body screws and metal axles. The model has never been started. It has been inventoried 100% complete. NOTE: the box top displays much better than the 'good-' grade. It is rated as such because there is significant bug damage to the litho on the right short side (one 2"x"2 area and one 2"x1" area) and light bug damage on the other 3 sides. This kit must be shipped insured.

1963 issue. This release was the first (and final) box art change from the original 1956 issue; John Steel artwork replaced that of Jim Cox. Large 1/48 scale model is from ex-Helicopters for Industry molds, which Aurora purchased in about 1955/56. Features cockpit with floor, bulkhead, seats, control sticks and instrument panel, optional position doors and decals for all four versions. Molded in silver and clear plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the decals are flat, 100% intact and not water damaged, but there is moderate age foxing (brown spots).

Still factory sealed. 1983 issue from the original Four Star molds. Very highly detailed kit of the civil F3F biplane fighter. The Gulfhawk was one of the most famous aircraft of the 1930s. She was flown by the famous Al Williams for Gulf Oil at air shows all around North America. Features full cockpit detail, sliding canopy, movable control surfaces, retracting tailwheel, and the main gear retracts and extends when the prop is turned by hand.
