Monogram F-51D (P-51D) Mustang Action Model - Four Star Issue, 1/32, PA77-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Dated 1962. First issue of this classic 'Action Model' with great detail and mold quality. Features opening canopy to show the highly detailed cockpit, tiny levers under the wings drop 2 bombs, a small knob on the bottom rotates and extends and retracts the main gear and tailwheel; all gear doors including tailwheel open and close automatically with the gear. Not only do these features sound great, but they work. My built kit is over 35 years old and functions like new! Molded in silver, black and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This kit has an interesting history. In 1961, Monogram introduced the 1/32 scale Phantom Mustang. This was a very ambitious project. The kit was transparent, highly detailed and included two electric motors. One motor raised and lowered the main gear and tail wheel while the other spun the prop. Two small levers on the base dropped bombs from the wings. It was molded in clear, silver, black, red and zinc chromate green. Although successful, the kit was expensive to produce and Monogram charged a hefty retail price of $4.98. As a way to create more revenue from the molds, Monogram cleverly created this kit - using some of the same molds as the Phantom Mustang. The silver parts tree was completely re-cut and does not match the Phantom version. The red stand, gears and motorizing features were simply left out and the model molded in solid colors. The gear retraction/extension features was retained, but not motorized. On the new silver parts tree they added a small knob (placed on the bottom of the wing) and the same for the bomb dropping mechanism. This lowered the price to $1.98 and this additional revenue hopefully helped pay down the original mold costs.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

1960s Craftmaster issue in remarkable condition. Very well molded and detailed older kit with decals for both aircraft. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats.

Orange Crush-Revell 1908 Buick 10 Rumble, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very rare kit with a fascinating history. Around 1958/59, Orange Crush of Mexico offered a promotion. They offered free, colorful, plastic model cars if you collected correctly-marked Orange Crush bottle caps. The models are 1/32 scale Revell Highway Pioneer series - although there is no mention of Revell or Lodela anywhere on the box. Orange Crush had the boxes and even the instructions specially made for them with no mention of a manufacturer. They were never given numbers. The boxes were very thin and fragile cardboard. This has contributed to wear and you must be very cautious with them. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and the instructions are sealed in the bag as well. You could redeem your caps two ways - at the Orange Crush truck and at a Modelandia Hobby House. The box sides show the 18 cars in the series. Orange Crush also released two full-color booklets and a complete paint set for the cars. A colorful cardboard box held 7 colors of paint in glass bottles, complete with 'Orange Crush' screw-on caps! The entire promotion was done in coordination with Modelandia Hobby House which had up to 19 stores. Modelandia's name appears on each of the boxes and the paint as well. Robina S.A. was the bottler or distributor of Orange Crush in Mexico at that time. The box side lists the other 18 kits with small color pictures of each and shows three sizes of OC - Family Size (Familiar), Grand (Grande) and Normal. You could also obtain models with Titan bottle caps. Titan was also bottled by Robina and came in large (Titan) and smaller (Titancito) sizes and apparently more than one flavor. We do not know how Orange Crush had access to the plastic kits or who sealed the internal bags with the Crush instructions inside them. We can assume that it may have been Lodela, since they would have had access to the Revell molds. It is not know for how long the promotion lasted, but Orange Crush was one of the most dominant soft drinks in Mexico at that time. Here is one clue: some boxes claim that Modelandia had 13 locations; other boxes, which obviously came later on, claim 19 locations. This may indicate that this promotion went on for a significant amount of time.

KSN Midori Nakajima Ki-32 2 Oscar - Motor Drives Prop And Wheel And Wing Navigation Lights Work, 1/28, 800-03

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very rare. Large 1/28 scale motorized kit with many working features. A factory-assembled metal gear box with nylon gears is driven by a common FA-130 motor. The gearbox spins the prop and drives the tail wheel, moving the aircraft across any smooth surface while the red and green wing navigation light blink on and off. Factory glue is included as well as all running hardware and lights. Please note that KSN did not furnish the motor with the kit. Features hidden battery compartment (where the real engine would be) and it has moving rudder, elevator, ailerons and wing flaps. The kit has never been started and is complete. Inside it is just as it left the factory. The small parts, gearbox, lights and glue are still factory sealed. The plastic parts that were factory sealed are still sealed in the original clear bags; the few large parts that were never sealed are inventoried compete. The checkerboard cardboard presentation material and large full-color card showing aircraft and famous pilots is in very good condition . Includes instructions and decals in 'very good+' condition. The box is 100% complete with four solid corners and no repairs or tape. But it does have significant general wear as shown and discoloration, hence the 'good-' grade.

Aurora Curtiss Hawk P-6E - Factory 'Thin Tape' Sealed, 1/43, 116-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

Sold

Amazingly rare factory sealed first issue from the early 1950s. This is the first time I have seen this kit factory sealed. Box color and gloss are as new and the box grades a very strong 'Excellent+' overall. It displays as "Near Mint++" but I have graded it lower because there is a small (1/2" x 1/8") litho pull on the lower long side and some very light wear. The kit features movable ailerons, elevators and rudder, 'good' cockpit for that time, pilot figure and rotating wheels and propeller.
