Comet Bellanca Junior, 3102-70

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

From the 1960s and a reissue of the 1950s kit. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. NOTE: the owner of the kit was a professional draftsman, and he neatly drew some assembly guide lines on the plans. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Airfix Avro Lancaster B.III Dam Buster, 1/72, 08004

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

Sold

Still factory sealed. Dated 1993 and includes 108 pieces. Special 'Dam Buster' version of the venerable Airfix kit is properly modified to a No. 617 Squadron aircraft includes the Wallis 'Bouncing Bomb' or mine for attacking German dams in WWII. The bomb was spun to 500 rpm, and the attack had to take place at exactly 220 mph at 60 feet above the water. The bomb would be released and would skip over the water to the dam wall, where it would roll down roughly 30 feet underwater. At this point, it would detonate. Given that water is incompressible, the blast could only go one place - through the incredibly thick concrete dam wall. As you can imagine, the raid was dangerous and 32 crew were decorated after the May 1943 mission.
