AMT 1949 Plymouth Four Door Sedan Key-Wind Motorized Promo, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Original motorized dealership model in 'very good' condition. It has a bare metal chassis, metal spring motor with the original key, metal axles and drive gear. The motor does work. The model is 100% complete. Amazingly, the "PLYMOUTH" decal on the hood is intact and excellent. The body has very good color and gloss. This is a celluloid body and it does have some warping; but it is better than the overwhelming majority of the survivors. Mirrored windows are 'excellent' and the metal front bumper and grill and metal rear bumpers have 'excellent++' chrome. The previous owner has the fine trim correctly painted silver to 'professional' standards - it could pass for factory paint but it is not. The box is not original.

Aurora Nieuport 11, 1/48, 101-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Fifth issue with the original issue artwork still dated 1956; but actually this kit is from the early/mid 1960s. This is the final issue to retain the original Jim Cox artwork. In the first issue, there is a square Northern Lights logo in the lower left. In the second issue, it has been replaced with the first famous oval logo sunburst. In this issue, the post-'Famous Fighters' blue oval has been placed in the upper left, allowing us to the see the complete artwork. Molded in gloss dark olive green and black plastic. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box is intact but has stains and damage, so it is graded 'fair' and is not collectible. The decals are intact but have stains on the backing paper - the actual transfers are clear. Thanks to Eugene DuBey, we know some history on the aircraft that Aurora modeled. The tail # on the kit rudder is 1354, the number of a Nie 16 that served with "CAM de Dunquerke / St Pol sur Mer", 1916-17.

Comet Gull II by Carl Goldberg - 30 Inch Wingspan Wakefield-Style Flying Aircraft, 3903-300

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

late 1960s or early 1970s issue of this superb flyer. This is one of the famous Carl Goldberg designs of a cabin-class competition endurance model. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, detailed full size plans, building instructions, hardware, pre-formed gear struts, clear window material, color insignia sheet, tissue, wheels, rubber and propeller. The kit has never been started and is complete. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Carl Goldberg Models Ranger 28 - 28 inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft, D5-129

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Purchased new on March 3, 1966 at National Hobby Inc at 4526 Lorain Ave, Cleveland, OH. Quality rubber powered flying model with stick and tissue construction. Features die-cut balsa wood sheet parts, stripwood and spars, die-cut clear window material, light plastic nose cowl, plastic prop, rubber motor, fully finished wheels, plastic thrust button, formed wire gear struts, other wood stock as required, decals, tissue, full size plans and superb instructions. Never started and inventoried complete. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. Needless to say, Goldberg's models are of the highest quality.
