Pyro Portuguese Man-O-War Santa Catarina do Monte Sinai - Flagship of Vasco de Gama, 1/200, C209-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Very rare Larger-scale hardbox issue from 1966. There are only two 15th century war carrack ships that have made into plastic models - this one and the Henri Grace a Dieu, also by Pyro. Pyro had a tendency to produce historically significant models regardless of the popularity. I am thankful today that Pyro made these kits, but in the long run this practice did not help them. Pyro eventually sold the plastic kit business to Life-Like. The Portuguese carrack Santa Catarina do Monte Sinai was launched in 1520. She had the typical higher-castled construction and carried 140 cannons. In 1523 she was the flagship of the famous Vasco da Gama. The kit is well detailed and molded for that time and includes pre-formed ratlines, rigging line and billowing sails. The model measures about 14 to 15 inches long when assembled. The instructions include completed model photographs that are intended to be used as for rigging diagrams. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one gun barrel. Otherwise complete with all other parts, thread and instructions.

Measures 8.5 inches inches long when assembled. Molded in swirl wood tan and off-white. A photo of the built kit on the instructions serves as a standing rigging diagram. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including instructions. This is one of the 'intermediate' line of Pyro ship kits, which at the time were Pyro called '$1.00 Models' (later $1.25). All were roughly the same size and were a significant increase in detail from the '50 Cent Models'. Kits in the $1.00 line included the Skipjack, Racing Yawl, Persian Gulf Trader, Burma River Pirate, Polynesian Outrigger Canoe, Cutty Sark, Charles W. Morgan, HMS Bounty and HMS Ark Royal. 50 Cent kits in 1965 included the Mayflower, Barbary Pirate, USS Constitution, Santa Maria, Golden Hind, Half Moon, Bon Homme Richard, War Brig, HMS Victory and Flying Cloud.

MPM Aichi M6A1-K Nanzan - (M6A1K), 1/72, 72014

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Early in the development of the Seiran submarine based float plane, two preproduction airframes emerged with retractable landing gear for land operation. These were likely the 5th and 6th prototypes and they had dual controls. They were given the 'K' designation for trainer. They could also be operated from the submarines as they had the same catapult attachment. Training may have taken place like this with and airbase landing. It is interesting that the original Seiran concept did not call for floats as the aircraft would launch from the submarine catapult and crash-land beside the submarine when the mission was over. Limited edition kit. Features fine recessed panel line detail and decals for both aircraft. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.
