Ikko Battleship of Nagamasa Yamada, 1/150, 221

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Very, very rare Japanese kit that is not even listed in Burn's guide. From the late 1960s. 'IM' was a slogan used by Ikko. This is an excellent model for that time with very good detail. Features full hull, detailed deck houses & fittings, cutter with oars, separately molded masts and yards, furled sails, preformed ratlines, display stand, large wood-grained display base, name plate decals, full color flags, rigging material & rigging diagram and more. Molded in wood brown, white (sails), black and gold plate. Measures about 10 inches long when assembled. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Burns Guide to plastic models only listed one historic sailing vessel by Ikko: the sailing 'Battleship of Shogunate Hideyoshi Toyotomi.' However, I assume that Japanese modelers have known all along. As a matter of fact, this box lists Hideyoshi and Yamada's ships as part of a series of kits of historic Japanese ships. Ikko ended production in the late 1960s.

Very rare model of this Dreadnought. this waterline kit is beautifully molded with resin hull and small parts, superb turned solid brass gun barrels, full color French flag set and detailed illustrated instructions. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. Provence was the French flagship in the Mediterranean during WWI but did not see action there. She was significantly modernized in the 1920s then again in the 1930s. She was ready for service when WWII began and initially conducted Atlantic Ocean sweeps for German raiders. Provence was at Mers-el-Kebir in June 1940 when the British Royal Navy attacked, fearing that the French ships would be taken over by the Germans. Provence was sunk in the engagement. However she was refloated and moved to Toulon, where she was the flagship of the training fleet. In late 1942 the Germans raced to Toulon in an attempt to take the French Fleet there. The French scuttled the ships, including Provence. She was raised in 1943 and some of her guns were used for coastal defense of that area. The Germans scuttled her again as a harbor blockship in 1944. Ultimately, Provence was raised in April of 1949 and scrapped.

Mirko Mir CSS H.L. Hunley - World's First Successful Submarine, 1/35, 35-013

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Large-scale kit of this excellent subject. Full hull model features fine moldings and very good detail, injection molded parts, photoetched brass details, bow 'torpedo', display stand and color painting guide. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. Hunley was privately built in 1863 by Park and Lyons of Mobile, Alabama. The world's first successful submarine was fashioned from a cylindrical iron steam boiler, which was deepened and lengthened by the addition of tapered ends. Power was by 8 to turn the hand-cranked propeller while the 9th crew member worked the rudder. The ballast tanks could be flooded by valves and pumped out by hand. Extra ballast was through iron weights bolted to the underside of the hull; in the event of emergency surfacing, these could be removed by unscrewing the bolts from inside the vessel (nothing was mentioned about how the submarine may flood if you did this). On February 17, 1864, the crew of the Hunley made a daring late night attack on USS Housatonic in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. Hunley rammed the Housatonic and embedded her bow-mounted spar torpedo into the hull. The torpedo was detonated by a long rope, so after leaving the warhead, the Hunley's crew backed away. The torpedo did explode, sinking the Housatonic. However, the blast sank the Hunley also. The submarine was finally found in 1995 and is now a museum ship in South Carolina.

Monogram B-26 Invader - Four Star Issue / True Second Issue, 1/67, P6-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

True second issue from 1955. Rare. Few people (including me) knew that there was a second release of P6-98 that varied significantly from the first issue. The true first issue has a part number of 'P6-98', early '4 star' rectangle logo, black rubber main gear tires and no support peg to keep it from being a 'tail sitter' when assembled. The second issue (this kit) has the same part number, logo but has regular injection molded (silver) tires and a peg to keep the nose gear grounded. The instructions show these changes are are numbered P6, as are the decals. Molded in correct gloss silver and clear plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. (In the past it was believed that the second issue was 'PA6-98' with a modified box top logo. This is now known to be the third issue. Please note that the box is only 'good' with significant wear and closed tear on the lower long side.

Life-Like Civil War Blockade Runner - (Cutter Lavinia) (ex Pyro), 1/124, 09362

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very early Life-Like issue after Pyro sold out it's molds and remaining stock. Actually, this is a Pyro box with 'Life-Like' stickers neatly placed over the Pyro logo and part number on the top and all four sides. After the initial issue, Pyro re-marketed the Harriett Lane as the "Lavinia", which was what the Confederates renamed her when they captured her and made her a blockage runner. Very nicely molded full hull kit. Molded in white, black, light wood tan and green (hull). Includes full rigging diagrams and rigging material also. Never started. The parts that were originally factory sealed are still in the factory sealed bags; the parts that were not sealed have been inventoried complete including the instructions. The Harriett Lane was built in 1858 and named for President Buchanan's niece. The cutter was 180 feet long with a 30 foot beam and displacement was 670 tons. Armament consisted of 3-9 inch Dahlgrens and 1-30 lb Parrot Rifle. She was built at a time when steam was not fool-proof, so she is rigged for full sails. Harriett Lane served as the Presidential Yacht, the fired the first shot of the Civil War. She chased down blockade runners until January 1, 1863 when she was attacked by five Confederate Gun Boats and boarded. She was captured and renamed the Lavinia and was used as a blockade runner. Near the end of the war she caught fire at sea, and put into Havana Harbor. Federal forces took her again and rebuilt her in 1869 as the bark 'Elliot Ritchie'. She was abandoned at sea in 1884.
