Features propeller and shaft detail, separately molded island and other deck details and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Many of the Pyro kits came from Eagle (then Eaglewall) molds in England. Eaglewall went out of business around 1962 and Pyro acquired at least some of the molds. Pyro reissued some of these kits in the mid 1960s with AJ Rudisill artwork. Evidently the line was successful, as Pyro then cut some of their own molds and expanded the series significantly. The earlier issues have the full color artwork and a three digit part number. Later issues have a 'B' or 'C' in front of the three digit kit number; some have simplified box art that is a modification of the original Rudisill paintings by painting out most of the background. Pyro issued these kits into the late 1960 when Life-Like took over the molds. Some were reissued by Life-Like.

Grumman was awarded the contract in 1950, and in 1952 the first XS2F-1 flew. The large belly radome contained the PAS-38 search radar and the AWQ-10 MAD detector was in the tail. ALD-3 ECM performed DF (direction finding) duties, and the 70 million candle power spotlight lit up targets at night. Sonobuoys were held in both engine nacelles and offensive weapons included acoustic torpedoes, depth charges, rockets and conventional bombs. Trackers saw service in several other Navies including Canada.

Pyro Gouda Dutch Man-O-War - 17th Century, B212-400

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare Pyro kit from the late 1960s. Large scale - measures about 14 inches long when assembled. Very nicely molded and detailed. Features well over 250 parts, individually molded cannon, cradles and cannon hull hatches, separately molded fife rails with belaying pins, pre-molded rat lines, billowing sails, blocks and two photos for use in rigging the ship. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. Any kit of a Dutch 17th Century Man-o-War is rare - this may be the only injection molded kit ever made of this famous subject. The Gouda fought in the Anglo-Dutch Wars. She was built about 1636 and was commanded by Jan Egbertsz Ooms. The Gouda and other ships from Witte de With's fleet were lost in a storm in early November 1653. Pyro did not cut molds based on popularity, but usually by the historical significance of the subject. This was not a good injection-molded model business practice, but many collectors and builders are grateful today for these kits.

Strombecker Lockheed VTO Vertical Take-Off XFV-1 Fighter, 1/72, C50-89

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Reproduction

Sold

Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood pre-carved model manufacture before (and after) plastic kits were introduced. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are hardwood and are precarved to shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. This kit is hardwood with many plastic injection molded parts, so it was produced in the transition from wood to plastic. The prop hubs, spinner, tip tanks and fuselage are wood, while the wings, props, scoop and tank fins are red plastic while the canopy is injection molded in clear. Full color decals are furnished as well as a "Join the Strombecker Model-Makers Club" brochure. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. NOTE: box is a reproduction box. The quality is so good that I initially thought it was original!
