Aurora Northrop P-61 Black Widow, 1/48, 392-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

$179

Still mint in the factory seal. Hardbox issue dated 1960 - however, this issue lacks the 'Famous Fighters' in the oval logo boarder and has a 198 price extension, so it likely from 1961. Large 1/48 scale kit. This has to be some of Jo Kotula most fantastic artwork - the P-61 patrols over a South Pacific island base at night, destroying an intruder (or defender?).

Continental Model Airplane Co Messerschmitt Bf-109 (Me-109) - 'Super Flyer' 21 Inch Wingspan Balsa Wood Flying Model

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Poor

$29

1940s flying model kit from the Golden Age of model aviation. Kit consists of stick and tissue construction and is intended to be rubber powered. Includes printwood sheets, strip wood in two sizes, completely carved main gear wheels, rough-cut balsa prop, balsa blocks, tissue, clear canopy material and metal stock for the landing gear and hardware. NOTE: one rib has been cut from the printwood sheet. No other parts have been cut out. Quality of the cut is excellent. There is no assembly. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans. NOTE: box is missing one set of end panels (inner and out flaps). The rest is there, but it suffers from age damaged, hence the 'poor' grade. The plans/instructions also suffer from age and have numerous cracks and splits. They are 95% complete, but many small chips are missing. They are certainly complete enough to build the kit.

Comet Sparky - 32 Inch Wingspan Wakefield-Style Flying Aircraft, 3408-149

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc++

$64

Still factory sealed. From the 1960s/early 1970s. Rare large flying model. It is a reissue of the 1950s release. Features high quality print and strip balsa wood, a beautiful, large carved balsa prop that needs final sanding to shape, fully formed wheels, thrust button, metal and wood stock as required, tissue, and excellent full size plans with instructions. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

H&F Model Airplane Co The Bee - 48 inch Wingspan Free Flight or R/C

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$89

Sale Pending
Email for availability.

H&F was out of Brooklyn, NY in the 1930/40s. Rare 1930s free flight model for B Class Competition. Since this model is super-stable, it would make an ideal conversion to RC. This model came from the estate of a very active and particular early aircraft kit collector. It is like factory-new inside and has not been started - it even includes 1930s style low profile wheels/tires. Complete with all parts, plans and decals (if originally included). Designed for 'Sniffing Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off.

Revell USS Pennsylvania BB38 Battleship - Sea Power Issue, 1/426, H422-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$125

1961 Sea Power softbox release. Rare kit of the Arizona's sister ship. The Pennsylvania was in dry-dock during the December 7th Pearl Harbor attack and survived with minimal damage. She was rebuilt and saw significant action in the Pacific in WWII, steaming over 150,000 miles from 1941 to 1945. It is thought that she may have fired more ammunition than any ship in history and she never once reported 'Not Ready' for any operation or need. After being used as a nuclear test ship at Bikini, she was towed to Kwajalein and sunk. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals, flag sheet and instructions.
