Berkeley Aeronca Sedan Land or Seaplane Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/12

Big 1/12 scale model with a 35.25 inch wingspan. Originally designed as a gas powered model for free flight or control line, it can be converted to electric power and modern R/C (radio control). Includes all parts to build as a landplane but includes plans and instructions for seaplane and floats. Features numerous die-cut and perfabricated wooden parts, strip stock as required, formed wire landing gear, completely finished wheels, die-cut clear windshield and side windows, a large decal sheet, covering material, full size plans and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and plans present. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

1970s reissue of the 1950s kit. Features traditional wood/tissue construction, quality printwood sheets, pre-cut balsa stringers and spars, detailed full size plans, building instructions, clear material for windows, tissue and wood propeller. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. NOTE: there is some writing on the plans but they are still completely usable. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

During this time, some fantastic Cold War kits were produced of Russian Aeroflot Airliners and Military Helicopters and Aircraft.

SALE!! Very highly detailed and well molded kit from the 1970s. From original Bandai molds. Builds up a rolling chassis just like the real vehicle. Features detailed engine with ignition wiring, full engine compartment with hoses and wiring, removable hood, full suspension, driveline and exhaust detail, steerable wheels, complete interior (down to the speedometer cable and individual clutch, brake and accelerator pedals and levers, a large sheet of micro wood trim so that the wooden parts of the kit can be accurately represented with in-scale wood grain, opening rear cargo doors, full van interior, opening passenger and driver doors, flexible fuel lines, headlight wiring, choice of decals and much more. Molded in gloss black, gloss ivory, brass plate, wood tan, clear, green tinted clear (sunshade) and with real rubber tires, rubber wires and cables, small metal parts and details and a sheet of precut in-scale grain wood. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the internal factory sealed bags.
