Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: VG+++
Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood preshaped model manufacturer before plastic kits were introduced. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are hardwood and are precarved to shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. This kit is hardwood with many plastic injection molded parts, so it was produced in the transition from wood to plastic. The prop hubs, spinner, tip tanks and fuselage are wood, while the wings, prop blades, scoop and tank fins are red plastic while the canopy is injection molded in clear. Full color decals are furnished as well as a "Join the Strombecker Model-Makers Club" brochure. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals, instructions, sandpaper, sanding stick and club form present.
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: VG++
Dated 1933 on the plans. This model came from a long-time collector who purchased this model new in October of 1955 from Cleveland direct. It was even factory-packed with pages of the newspaper "Cleveland Plain Dealer" dated June 29, 1955. This is a 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, sheet wood, pre-drilled nose block, fully finished spinner, thrust button & wheels, metal stock, rigging material, completely formed prop blades, covering material, highest quality plans and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with everything present. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter- Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

1962 completely chrome plated hardbox kit with Bill Campbell artwork. Large scale with 20 inch wingspan. While the box is only fair, the chrome is above average condition with typical light wear. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all aircraft parts, decals and instructions.

Very nicely done kit in the Frog tradition. On the 28th of September, 1936, the Bristol 138/A climbed to an altitude of 49,967 feet to establish a new world altitude record. In 1937 it climbed to 53,967 feet where the windscreen cracked. The pilot was saved by the pressure suit he was wearing. NOTE: this kit has "professional" quality minor assembly as follows: bulkhead, floor and radiator baffle installed in one fuselage side. There is no other assembly. The actual aircraft has been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. NOTE: missing display stand.

Still factory sealed. Nice kit of this classic liner that saw extensive service; she was not scrapped until 2004. Features color printed high-quality cardstock - no painting required. This appears to be a waterline kit; I cannot tell more because it is still sealed.

Ross Abare issue Gotha in 'Excellent' condition. Mr. Abare, a rare kits dealer in the earliest days of the hobby, contracted with Aurora to produce a copy of the original 1958 kit. However, Aurora has the printers use the mid 1960s oval logo without the 'Famous Fighters' in the border- thus forever separating the Abare issue from the original issue. Mr. Abare was reportedly quite upset, as he wanted exact copies. Molded in deep burgundy and black plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The box has perfect color and gloss but some very light general wear and a light crease in the upper left hand corner.

Very rare promotional model of the 'Safeguard' ABM Missile Sprint. The Sprint and Spartan pair made up the missiles of this Anti-Ballistic Missile system with Sprint designed for short range interceptions. The system was made operational on October 1 1975 and Congress voted to shut it down less than 24 hours later on October 2 1975. Condition is excellent. Missile measures 14.75 inches high and is made of plastic. The missile body is mint with no broken parts - no scratches - no wear. The decals are 'very good.' There is some black missing on the roll pattern at the top (see photo) and the same amount missing on the back base roll pattern. The red 'US ARMY' is mint on the back but part of the 'R' is missing on the front as shown. The base is 'excellent' and has a metal plate that reads 'US Army Sprint Antimissile Missile - Martin Marietta.' There are no touch ups or repairs and no cracks. Please note that shipping insurance is required.

1955 Pre-'S' release in exceptional investment-grade 'Near Mint-' condition. Beautiful boxart has like-new gloss and color, four solid corners, no price tag or tag marks, no fading, tears, creases or missing litho, no tape (other than the factory sealing tape of course) and no repairs. The only flaws are very light, even general wear. Full hull kit with detailed deck, main 5 inch guns, anti-aircraft guns, torpedo tubes and more. It has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including all parts, decals flag sheet and instructions.
Vacuform Model Kit, Box Condition: Sealed
Bagged kit that is still factory sealed. Very high quality vacuform kit from about 1987. Features recessed panel line detail and raised detail were appropriate, full cockpit, optional position landing gear, prop and clear canopy. Vacuform kits are not recommended for modelers who do not have experience building them.

1950s issue flying model with the box art showing a Coke next to the young builders snack plate and finished product. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with high quality printwood, stripwood, wooden stock as required, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, prop and detailed full size plans/building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. At the time this kit was made, the entire Comet "R" series consisted of R1 Dauntless, R2 Spitfire, R3 Avenger, R4 Corsair F4U-1, R5 F-86D Sabre, R6 Vengence, R7 Piper Cub, R8 Ercoupe, R9 Sparky, R10 F-100 Super Sabre and R11 Grumman F9F Panther. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
Wood and Metal Model Kit, Box Condition: Good++
Very, very rare. From the early 1930s. Notice that the motor is referred to simply as 5/8" bored engine. There is no record of a public sale of this kit since the mid 1990s and no public photo of one until now. It is safe to say that only a handful are left. Fred Megow once stated that they lost money on the big gas models (like this Cadet) and sold very few; they were done for status only. The box top and tray are in exceptional condition given the age of the model. The box top and litho are both 100% intact, although the corners are taped due to splits and the litho has stains as shown. The tray is better with no splits. This is an incredible kit for that time with a high degree of prefabrication- "Can Be Built In A Few Evenings!" at the box says and it is true. Features ready-carved, completed hollow wing leading edges from a single block of balsa, conical monocoque fuselage, universally acceptable motor mounting, special wing mounting that protects the model (the wing will fly off loose undamaged in case of a collision), realistic cabin, high aspect ratio, solid, factory cut tail, high quality printwood, spars, stripwood and sheet wood, balsa blocks as required, metal stock, finished rubber tires with wooden hubs, the original paper envelope including all hardware, embossed and outlined aluminum sheet including lower, top and nose cowls, beautiful fuselage-length 'CADET' insignia in black and silver, covering material, huge, detailed plans and even a four page, illustrated brochure by Maxwell B. Bassett (Pioneer Gas Model Builder and Designer) called 'Flying Gasoline Powered Models.' Even the original cardboard dividers and inserts are present. There is no assembly but NOTE: 20 wing ribs are cut out to 'professional' quality. All other parts are uncut. Carefully inventoried and NOTE: missing the prop blank and fluids. The factory rubber bands disintegrated. Otherwise includes all other items, insignia and paperwork.

Still factory sealed. Rare late 1950s issue with Ray Gaedke artwork. The clear Cellovision window and trading card on the back are both 100% intact and very good. The kit was well detailed for that time and includes rockets and drop tanks, detailed engine, opening engine access panel, opening canopy, pilot figure, moving ailerons and rudder and more. The scale tractor is molded in yellow and features a detailed engine and suspension, removable engine access panels and a driver figure. The box has a crunch at the lower left, edge wear and a creased lower long side panel.

During the golden era of realistic train models, La Belle Woodworking Company created perhaps the very finest scale kits of early American passenger equipment. The kit features die cut hardwood parts (no balsa), carved clerestory roof, clear window material, underside details, metal details, building instructions and full size plans. I have built these models and they look identical to the real prototypes. The kit has not been started and is complete with all parts, sealed smaller details and plans + instructions. Includes an unopened, 2" long colorful tube of Aurora plastic model cement. 1958 first issue with fantastic Jo Kotula boxart. This is the Parents' Magazine issue with the seal located in the lower right. At the time this was considered a fine kit and highly rated in reviews. The F4B-4 was a classic 1930s Navy Biplane Fighter that is still famous for their colorful paint jobs at that that time. Cowl, tail and trim color would vary with the group's Aircraft Carrier (Ranger, Lexington or Saratoga) and the aircraft's position in the flight formation. The kit has never been started. Very rare kit. The Seabee was produced as a high performance sport amphibian. This is a very hard-to-fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-lin cement on the top. Produced in 1949 or just before. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. O-Lin (correctly spelled with a hyphen) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. I have not seen a catalog of O-lin, but from some instructions we know that the kit line sometime during the late 1940s was #100 C&NW Pioneer Locomotive and Tender, #500 F-80C Shooting Star, #501 Piper Cub Special, #502 Stinson, #503 Republic Seabee, #504 Beechcraft Bonanza, #505 F-86 Sabre Jet Fighter, #506 Ercoupe Club-Air and #507 Ryan Navion. More kits were issued as the 1940s came to a close and O-Lin ended all production. At some time in 1950 all kits were branded Lindberg only. It is common to see the earliest Lindberg kits with un-marked O-Lin instructions and "O-Lin Products Chicago 25, Ill." on the bottom of the teardrop stand. Paul Lindberg was careful to use up all the old materials on hand at O-lin.

From high quality Hasegawa molds. This was a short-lived venture by AMT to promote quality Hasegawa model kits under the AMT name. Kits were molded in Japan then boxed in the USA, while AMT made the unique decal choices for Royal Hellenic Air Force (Greece), Italian and Spanish Air Forces. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the instructions have very light bug damage. The actual decal transfers are fine, but the backing paper has bug damage also.
