1961 USA issue hardbox in 'excellent+' condition. Color and gloss are as new and all four corners are solid. Light general wear is the only flaw. This is a wonderful kit that is from the same molds as the 'S' issue, so it makes an ideal builder also. Model features has movable vertical fin and dive brakes, removable rocket engine, hinged landing skids and removable canopy. Never started. Large-scale kit features excellent interior detail, crew members, rotating turrets with elevating guns, full wheel well detail, opened or closed bomb bay doors with bomb load, rotating props and rear boarding ladder. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please note that the box displays slightly better than the 'good+' rating but is graded as such because there is a piece of masking tape on the left short box side.

1960 issue hardbox with full artwork; Highway Pioneers prior to this year simply had generic artwork and an ink stamped name on the box ends was the only way to identify the contents. This kit has never been started. All parts are still sealed in the factory bag. Includes instructions. The box would rate slightly higher than 'good++' but there is age foxing on the box side panels. These kits have a fascinating history. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream and never made the top 10 list of boys activities. Spurred on by the nation-wide aviation craze in the 1920s, many became modelers and built flying or static wooden models of airplanes, ships, trains, automotive and other subjects. Basic kits existed, but many of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s when the Gowland & Gowland/Revell Highway Pioneers became the sales sensation of the year. Demand was so great that the factories could not keep up and almost overnight 'model building' was mainstream. The phenomenon of the 'Highway Pioneers' kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles fit the bill: they could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real cars. The success of the Highway Pioneers lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the late 1950s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys...and many adult males too!

The Pyro company chose many of it's kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. To this day they are often the only kit ever available of such subjects.

Not a kit but a factory-assembled and painted metal model that is ready for display. Highly detailed featuring realistically opening hood, detailed engine, detailed interior, opening passenger side door, wheels that steer from the steering wheel, very good suspension, drive line and exhaust detail, rubber tires and more. Condition is 'excellent++' with only very slight wear. Does not appear to have ever been displayed; but most of the internal packing material is missing so I will pack it carefully. I would rate the condition as 'Near Mint' overall. Nothing is missing and there are repairs or broken parts; factory paint is excellent. The box has wear and one end flap has been glued back on.

Very rare 1940s wartime 'Spotter Model' in the 'National Defense Model Series.' Strombecker specifically made this line of 1/72 scale kits to fit the 'Official National Spotter or Recognition Program' for civilians and the armed forces for training and identification. This is a high quality, highly prefabricated kit of Western Pine hardwood. The parts are almost completely carved - only final sanding is needed! Includes perfectly carved and smooth fuselage, perfect and completely finished engine nacelles, wings cut and carved to shape including airfoil, all other parts cut to shape (and many of them completely finished), smaller parts, full color insignia sheet, CASCO glue envelope, Strombecker wood filler envelope, hardwood sanding stick, two types of sandpaper and extensive & detailed assembly instructions.
