Guillows Focke-Wulf FW-190 - 16 Inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft, 1/32, 502

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

From the 1960s and one of a very popular 16.5 inch wingspan series of World War 2 stick and tissue flying kits. Includes die cut balsa parts, vacuform nose, wheels, plastic propeller, hardware, vacuform canopy, colored tissue, decals and full size plans with detailed building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Rare kit from the 1950s. This is the two-piece box with an early 29 cent price extension. It is molded in glossy white and clear plastic. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Comet originally began model production in 1929 with a line of balsa flying models. In the mid-1950s Comet made a beautiful line of small and medium scale aircraft and missile models with colorful boxes. The early issues were in one-piece 'flip-top' boxes, and the later issues and releases were in standard two-piece 'hardboxes' with a lithograph slick glued to the top box. In 1963 Comet sold the plastic kit molds to Aurora, who reissued some but not all of the kits.

Comet Patrol Torpedo Boat - PT-9 - 10 Inches Long - Solid Wood Model, J3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Late 1930s or early 1945 issue. Almost everyone has heard of the Comet flying aircraft kits that boys and men built from stick and tissue, but few know that Comet had a line of ships also. Very nicely done wooden kit that measures 10 inches long when assembled. The hull had been very neatly factory machine cut in three dimensions. Also includes a sheet of printwood, balsa blocks and other wood parts for the superstructure, decals and full size plans. The plans are superior to most ship plans of the day with 4 hull sections, full size top and side drawings, illustrated instructions and a very large number of detail drawings. The decals are in 'good-' condition due to bug damage but could be easily scanned and restored as most of the transfers are fully intact. The plans are 'excellent.' The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts.

The Taylorcraft BF12-65 was first manufactured in Alliance, Ohio in 1941. Many of these sharp looking airplanes have been kept in great condition by faithful owners across the country. The Taylorcraft was easy to fly and very forgiving. The glide ratio was an impressive 22 to 1. With the 65 hp Franklin engine, the aircraft has a cruising speed of 96 mph and a top speed of 112 mph. My father's first aircraft was a used Taylorcraft. He purchased it around 1954 while he was in high school. The airport manager allowed him to make payment, which he did by working as a delivery boy for the local grocery store and by waxing cars at $5 each. The airplane still exists and is flown today from it's base in New York.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

The small parts are still factory sealed in the 'krinkle' clear bag. The large parts have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. Lincoln was an injection molding firm located in Hong Kong. Model kits were not their primary business but an important sideline and they established an early international presence. Major countries of distribution were Hong Kong, Great Britain, New Zealand and Australia. Through specialty hobby shops, they often found their way to the West Coast of the USA. As early as 1956 Lincoln reissued about 16 Hawk kits from the USA, often with 'Picture Gallery' artwork. Although not their primary business, they established quite a line of plastic before discontinuing production in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Many molds moved to Kader, also in Hong Kong, who reissued the line. Some molds eventually found their way to the USA either through ATP (who purchased the excess kit stock when Kader sold out) or IM.
