Roundhouse-Model Die Casting 40' Truss Side Box Car - Southern Pacific - Metal HO Craftsman Kit with Sprung Metal Trucks, 1/87, B304

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Athearn Southern Pacific Lines 'Overnight' 40 Foot Box Car - Metal HO Craftsman Kit - Bagged, 1/87, 4-228

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Sold

Still factory sealed. In the late 1940s/early 1950s there was a revolution in model railroading: high quality kits became available for the first time. Before this, there were few standard gauges and most railroads were scratch built to any gauge the collector desired. This kit is the Menzies reissue of the classic Athearn kit. These kits build very realistic models because parts that are metal on the real box car are metal in the kit; same for the wooden parts. All sides, doors and roof are fully decorated, leaving very little painting. Includes wooden floor, opening doors, metal underside and detail fittings such as AB brake set, brake wheel, etc. These make great stand alone models or high-quality rolling stock for your line.

Megow 40' Steel Box Car - HO Gauge - Souther Pacific Lines with Trucks and Couplers, HO, QD-26

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare Megow kit from the 1930s/early 1940s. This is one of the rare 'Deluxe Packing' kits which includes the very colorful box, internal cardboard display material with the trucks, automatic couplers and detail kits still attached to it. Kit features high quality embossed thick cardstock sides, ends and roof with crisp printing, embossed metal roof and other bracing parts, pre-cut hardwood and other wood stock as needed, a sealed bag of detail parts, fully assembled correct truck kits and full instructions/plans. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. Fred Megow was a famous pioneer in the model aircraft field from the late 1920s and a very early manufacture for HO scale trains in the 1930s. His product lines of semi-prefabricated, solid and stick and tissue kits won him national and extensive world wide distribution - possibly the first modern model manufacture to achieve this. His fascinating story involves trying novel and untested marketing ideas in the Great Depression, followed my explosive world-wide growth. Mr. Megow was a true pioneer in the early days of modeling and a leader in the low price field so that every boy could afford a kit during those difficult times. Megow also produced scale operating train and trackside kits, ship models (large and small) and automotive subjects. Megow's catalogs claim that they were pioneers in HO scale, and there is documentation to support this fact. Megow's early HO train kits served not only to promote this now-popular scale nationally, but were among the very first train kits. Model train kits were responsible for the explosion in model railroad popularity in the late 1930s - please see the article in this website about these kits.

Varney P.F.E (Pacific Fruit Express) 40' Wood Refrigerator (Reefer) Car - Wood and Metal HO Scale Train Kit, HO, R-4

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Varney was one of the most known names in early HO model railroading. Gordon Varney was visionary in early business years. When HO was just gaining in popularity in the late 1930s, Varney sold all of his successful 'O' gauge moldings and casting to concentrate exclusively on HO gauge. Judging from the style of kit, this one is from the 1930s. Features very neatly precut and shaped roof, floor board and ends cut to final shape, other stripwood as needed, metal ladders and fittings, some very early style injection molded parts (such as ice hatches), other metal parts and stock as needed, very colorful and highly detailed embossed car sides done in bright orange PFE with the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific logos (correct for this car and kit), and brown embossed car ends. There is a sealed bag that contains the freight car trucks and the small parts are still factory sealed as well. The kit has not been started. Most parts are still sealed and all others have been inventoried complete. The plans are excellent and include instructions. The car sides and end are in as-new condition.

Revell HMS Victory Lord Nelson - with 'S' Cement, 1/146, H363-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++++

Sold

1960 hardbox issue, and the first issue due to the 298 price extension. This is the finest box that I have ever seen on this kit - the color and gloss are factory perfect. There is no edge wear and the four corners are solid. There is clear tape on the sides, so that is why I am not grading it as 'near mint'. As with most all Revell early ship kits, the model is finely molded and very highly detailed. Model is about 15 inches long when assembled. Features full detail on the top two decks, prefabricated rat lines, vac sails, full rigging material and instructions and display stand. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including all parts and sails. Instructions included in as-new condition. Inside the sealed bag I can see the tube of 'S' Cement, still wrapped in it's factory paper.

Hawk Mig-15, 1/48, 707

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Very rare early injection molded kit. This kit was first issued in 1952, so it was made at the same time that the Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' were released. It was produced in this box up into 1956. This model is molded in the correct glossy silver with a unique early stand. Molded in gloss silver and green-tinted clear. The box is in 'very good++' condition and is very displable. The kit has never been started. The contents are factory-new inside. All small parts are still sealed in the factory 'krinkle' bag; the few big parts not sealed have been inventoried complete, with 'very good' flat decals and 'excellent' instructions. This is a one-owner kit from a recent collection, and he was given the kit in early 1956. Hawk was a producer of wooden kits (with metal or plastic details) before and after WWII, and was one of the handful of manufacturers to produce such kits (known as 'solids') in a consistent 1/48 scale. Hawk made aircraft, ship and train models in this fashion. The very first injection molded aircraft kits in the United States may have been made by Varney in 1946, but Hawk was always an innovative and quality-driven company, and they took a gamble on injection molded kit well before they were popular. As early as 1946 they may have issued the 1/48 Curtiss R3C-1 with wheels and in 1948 the 'Evolution of the Jet' gift set. In 1949, they issued several kits - the Supermarine S6B, Gee-Bee, Howard Ike, F-84G and the Constellation. In 1952, the Mig-15 was released in 1/48. As with the previous kits, this is in the Hawk two-tone one-piece flip box.
