Highly detailed and finely molded 1/700 scale waterline model that includes air wing. Never started. All parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. IJN Taiyo began life as the NYK ocean liner Kasuga Maru. Kasuga Maru was one of a class of three Japanese ocean liners that were built for the Nippon Yusen K line. She was launched in September 1940 and saw very little or no service (accounts vary) as a transport before her conversion to the escort carrier Taiyo. Given the size and machinery of this class of liner, the IJN subsidized their construction and knew they would make fine escort carriers. The Taiyo went on to have a very active career. She was attacked many times and damaged several times. Taiyo was eventually sunk in a submarine attack in August 1944 with a heavy loss of life by the USS Rasher.

The stock version features a highly detailed, all-chrome stock Thunderbird V-8 engine, detailed engine compartment, opening hood, full interior and molded detail underside. The custom version includes an engine display stand, rear nacelles, custom back up lights, custom antenna and rear grill/pan, custom skirts, custom front, grill, bumperettes and headlight bezels, interior with extra gauges, tach, floor shifter, seat belt and telephone, custom fender mirrors and more. The radical custom version includes a wild front and lower nose extension, extreme upper and lower rear deck extensions, custom grill, nerf bars and headlight covers, rear nerfs and custom tail lights, front upper and lower scoops, custom fast-back hardtop, continental kit and more. This kit has never been started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing (2) custom side pipes & 'upholstery' material. Otherwise complete with all other parts, sandpaper, unopened metal tube of colorful white, black and red AMT body putty, 'excellent' decals and photocopied instructions. This excellent, large scale model measures 23 inches long when assembled. Includes factory precarved hardwood hull, extensive hardwood printed part sheets, wooden stock and masts, tapered wooden yards, standing and running rigging material, hardwood base and pedestals, extensive metal detail castings (lifeboats, ladders, anchors, skylight, capstan, pump wheels, pump, wheel, bitts, windlass, etc.), cloth sails, colorful decoration sheet, name plate, full sized plans, heavily illustrated assembly book, rigging instructions and more. The kit has no assembly but NOTE: some of the hardwood parts have been cut from the printwood sheets with plenty of margin around the borders. Nothing else has been done. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete along with the decoration sheet, instruction book and large plans, all in excellent condition.

From the 1930s. This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit is in the older cardboard box with 'Cleveland World Famous Models' in silver print. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, fully formed wheels, thrust button and spinner, pre-drilled nose block, other blocks as required, CDs famous black fibre propeller, metal and wood stock and more. Includes CDs highest quality plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and plans/instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
