Revell Convair B-36 Giant Bomber - (small box) Pre 'S' True Second Issue, 1/184, H205-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM-

Sold

Very rare, second issue from 1956 that is correct in every way. Unusual narrow height Pre 'S' box has the full artwork and the rare one-piece stand arm. The box is in investment-grade 'near mint-' condition. Color and gloss is like new, all four corners are perfect, no price tags or marks from tags, there is no tape - not even marks from the original factory sealing tape. There are no tears, tape or otherwise, creases, fading, stains or dents. The only flaws are slight edge wear and a 'light' spot just behind the foreground engine that you can see in the photo if you look hard. Has early 2nd issue stand with the two-piece stand arm. Revell very quickly replaced the faulty one-piece with this design. The correct instructions showing this early stand and the decal sheet includes the stand decal. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, 'excellent' condition decals and instructions. The factory clear small-part 'krinkle' bag is present but is split open, hence the 100% inventory. The first issue of this kit looks exactly like this on the outside, but inside it has the three-prong one piece stand and instructions that reflect that and an updated parts list. The third issue of this kit shared the same part number but is in a taller box, has greatly simplified artwork, the two-piece stand arm and instructions that reflect that change. For a long time it was thought that all 'full' box art versions had the one-piece stand arm; that is not true. Revell changed the design so quickly that some were issued with the change.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Original dealer promotional model. This is a one-owner model, and he got it new in 1960. It has never been played with. The two tone paint is 100% original and has very nice color and gloss. The clear is 'excellent' other than the typical factory flaws. There is very little warping, just at the front fenders which almost every one of this model has. The owner painted the chassis black. He also painted the silver trim to 'professional' quality as shown. It looks better than most factory-painted details.

Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

The kit features die cut hardwood parts (no balsa) such as pre-cut and scribed sides with all windows factory cut, car ends done in the same fashion, clear window material, excellent underside and cast metal details, building instructions and plans and decals/transfers. Please read the article on this website about older HO train kits and the modeling revolution they caused in the late 1930s/1940s.

Lindberg President Ocean Liner SS President Wilson, 1/547, 77224

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Reissued from the original Pyro Molds. Full hull model of a rare subject. Box photo shows a built-up of the actual model. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Thanks to Dusty Rhodes for pointing out this excellent MARAD internet write up of this famous ship: SS President Wilson was a U.S. flag passenger ship (design type P2-SE2-R3), constructed by the Bethlehem Steel Company in Alameda, California and completed on April 27, 1948. Originally intended to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II as the Admiral F.B. Upham, the U.S. Maritime Commission canceled its order for the vessel as the war was ending. In 1948, the ship was bareboat chartered to American President Line (APL) and renamed SS President Wilson. The shipping line bought the vessel outright on August 27, 1954.During its service with APL, President Wilson operated on a Pacific Ocean route, traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Hawaii, the Philippines, China, and Japan before returning on the reverse itinerary. By the late 1950s, passenger liners were being eclipsed by jet airplanes as the preferred mode of trans-oceanic travel, but APL redirected its marketing efforts to pleasure travelers and continued its liner service well past the retirement of many of President Wilson's contemporaries. On February 1, 1964, while underway about 600 miles southeast of Tokyo, Greek cargo ship Agia Erini L. (formerly the liberty ship Richard J. Hopkins) transmitted a general message notifying all ships in the vicinity that there were cracks in the ship's hull and requested that all ships indicate their positions. The following day, the ship's crew sent another message stating that its condition was critical and requested that President Wilson, the closest vessel, come to its aid. The captain of President Wilson, J. D. Cox, immediately altered course and steamed toward the ship. Four other vessels in the area also changed course to assist the stricken ship. When President Wilson arrived, the crew found that Agia Erini L.'s condition had deteriorated and feared that the crew would soon have to abandon ship; in the early morning hours of February 3 the crew of the Green ship began to abandon their vessel. Earlier, two ships, SS Stolt Victor and SS Rolv-Jarl, had arrived on scene and Captain Cox directed the ships' crews to position their vessels downwind of Agia Erini L. in the case escaping crew members were swept away.Several crew members were able to escape the sinking ship via motor life boat, but the remaining began to jump over the side and into the sea. In response, President Wilson launched its #3 motor boat with a 13-man crew with Chief Officer Carl Larkin in command. Later, Larkin explained that his greatest concern was to avoid hitting any of the men with the boat's propeller. Just 45 minutes after Larkin and crew set out, they returned to President Wilson with 18 survivors. The master of Rolv-Jarl also joined the rescue effort and maneuvered his ship close to the lifeboat to create a wind-break. Rolv-Jarl also rescued the final eight Agia Erini L. survivors from the water.According to Captain Cox "the success of the operation rested entirely on Chief Officer Larkin and his crew." He also stated the operation was the most dangerous operation he had witnessed in more than 40 years at sea.President Wilson continued to serve as a passenger vessel for American President Line until it was sold to Oceanic Cruise Development, Inc. in April of 1973 and renamed Oriental Empress. In 1976, Oriental Empress was laid up in Hong Kong. In 1984 the ship was sold in Taiwan for scrap.
