Aurora Old Timers 1911 Buick Bug, 1/16, 574-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

1963 first issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss dark green, gloss ivory and with plated parts and real rubber tires. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

Comet Sparky 32 inch Wingspan Wakefield-Style Balsa Flying Model Airplane - Coke Bottle Issue, R9-59

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

From the 1950s. Rare, large flying model with a Coke bottle next to the young model builders snake plate and finished product. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with high quality printwood, stripwood, wooden stock as required, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, prop and detailed full size plans/building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Comet Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, 1/317, PL11-29

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Late 1950s or early 1950s issue with great box artwork. Nicely molded small scale kit with all recessed panel lines, rear gun turret, clear cockpit canopy and aux gas tanks on the outboard wings. Molded in silver and clear with the traditional Comet 'Teardrop' stand. The kit has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. It is interesting to note that this kit was not reissued by Aurora. Although Aurora purchased the Comet molds, they had already cut their own molds for a small scale B-52. The Aurora kit is significantly larger (1/270 scale) that the Comet issue and varies in many details.

Sold

During the mid 1930s the Czech Air Force became aware of a need for a modern bomber aircraft. In order to shorten production times, they decided to look abroad for designs that could be built in-country. The French were cooperative but the bomber choices were not as the Czechs had hoped for. However, they settled on the MB-200 all metal high wing monoplane. Some copies were delivered assembled, but most were produced in state by Aero and afforded an excellent learning experience with all metal aircraft production. The airplane served well during the late 1930s, but was obsolete for WWII. The Germans distributed many to Romania and Bulgaria.

Lincoln was based in Hong Kong. Plastic kits were not the primary business, but they established quite a line of them before discontinuing production in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Many molds moved to Kader, also in Hong Kong, who reissued the line. Many molds eventually found their way to the USA either through ATP (who purchased the excess kit stock when Kader sold out) or IM.
