Legato Savoia-Marchetti SM-93, 1/72, LK056

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed and a very rare model. This is a high quality resin model and the only kit ever made of this aircraft. This history is from thereaderwiki.com: The Savoia-Marchetti SM.93 was an Italian dive bomber designed and produced in Italy from 1943. It was an all-wood single-engined low-wing monoplane with retractable undercarriage. The fuselage had a monocoque structure, with a single fin and low-set tailplane. The crew of two were accommodated under a long greenhouse-style canopy, with the pilot lying in a prone position above the rear of the engine, a Daimler-Benz DB 605A liquid-cooled V12 engine, while the gunner/radio-operator sat facing rearwards on a conventional seat. The two-spar wings were in three parts with the inner wings sharply tapered to the join, outboard of the landing gear attachments, and the outer wings moderately tapered to the rounded wingtips. The prone position for the pilot was intended to enable the pilot to resist the onset of g-induced loss of consciousness, but the position was uncomfortable for normal flight and severely limited the rearwards view of the pilot. The SM.93 made its maiden flight on January 31, 1944, and up to March 29, 1944 the SM-93 had made 16 test-flights with speeds up to 900 kilometres per hour (560 mph) achieved in a dive, demonstrating the low drag and clean aerodynamics. Flight testing was carried out under the aegis of the Luftwaffe and despite the good performance, the prone position was found to be unsatisfactory, being uncomfortable and restricting rearward vision. The program was halted by the German control Commission that was running weapons production in the Repubblica Sociale Italiana - RSI after the 1943 armistice.

Legato Caproni AP-1 - Italian light Bomber, 1/72, LK055

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed and a very rare model. This is a high quality resin model and the only kit ever made of this aircraft. This history is from military-history.fandom.com: Developed from the Ca.301, a single-seat fighter version of a similar design that was not put into production, the AP.1 was a two-seater version, fitted with a more powerful Alfa Romeo radial. Designed to serve both as a fighter and an attack aircraft, it was a low-wing monoplane with a fixed, trousered (spats are when the wheels are covered, trousers cover the landing gear legs) undercarriage, of mixed construction. Although it was a monoplane at a time when many of the air forces of the world were flying biplanes, the Caproni was still an anachronism with fixed landing gear (at that time, most planes also had fixed landing gear). The AP.1 prototype first flew on 27 April 1934. An initial series of 12 aircraft was delivered within 1936. In the same year, the Regia Aeronautica ordered a second series with improvements including a more powerful Alfa Romeo engine and more aerodynamic landing gear. In service, the large landing gear spats were often removed for ease of maintenance. The Caproni AP.1 equipped a total of eight squadriglie (Italian air unit equivalent to half an RAF squadron) of the assault wings of the Regia Aeronautica. It took part in the Spanish Civil War, but its unsatisfactory performance led to its quick replacement with the also disappointing Breda Ba.64, Ba.65 and Ba.88 types. Four examples were acquired by El Salvador for use in the Escuadrilla de Caza (a fifth aircraft was shipped to replace an aircraft which crashed during a ferrying flight), and another seven were sold to Paraguay and used in the Chaco Postwar period (1939-1945). Another 10 aircraft ordered by Paraguay were diverted to the Regia Aeronautica.

The B-32 was the B-29s competitor for the US War Department, January 1940 very long range bomber requirement. The B-29 won the competition, but the B-32 was produced as a back-up plan. The aircraft was plagued with teething problems and Consolidated was kept busy trying to solve them. The program was almost cancelled more than once. Finally, three B-32s arrived in the Pacific Theater for combat testing in May of 1945 and flew the first combat mission from the Philippines on May 29th. As more aircraft arrived in the Pacific most of the problems were eliminated and the B-32 was proven to be a tough, stable performer with excellent handling. Production was canceled at the end of the war. Features full decals for two aircraft including colorful nose art. Vac main parts with injection molded details and metal props, gear, etc. Includes drawing and photos of the real aircraft for reference. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bags; the big parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete with decals and instructions.
