Zvezda Russian Battleship Borodino, 1/350, 9027

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. This full hull kit from new, modern molds and highly detailed with 356 pieces. Borodino was the lead ship of a class of pre-dreadnought battleships built for the Imperial Russian Navy. She was finished after the start of the Russo-Japanese war in 1904. After completion she was sent with a squadron from Libau to break the Japanese blockade of Port Arthur, but while in transit the Japanese occupied the port. The Second Pacific Squadron sailed instead to Vladivostok, the last Russian port in the far east. After a very long voyage and numerous delays, the Japanese certainly knew they were coming and set up for battle to cut the Russians off at Tsushima Strait. Borodino saw action at Tsushima early on. After taking serious damage, the Russians were not interested in further battle and around 1700 they turned away from Japanese cruisers- but ran into the Japanese battleships again. 10 minutes later Togo ordered his ship to cease fire and disengage; the battleship Fuji had already loaded her 12" guns and fired them before the turn away. One of these shells hit Borodino under her starboard 6 inch turret, which started a fire in the ready ammunition that quickly spread to a 6" magazine. This caused a chain reaction and massive magazine explosions. Only one man survived from a crew of 855.

Guillows F-4J Phantom And F-16 A Fighting Falcon, 152

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

SALE!! Includes both factory sealed kits. Both are for static scale display and are non-flying models. The F-4J features all die-cut wood parts, full template set, many plastic details, decals and complete instructions. The F-16 is a scale stick-and-tissue style model with a clear canopy, numerous plastic details as shown on the box top, covering material, decals and full instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2014.

Sold

Rare first Lindberg issue from the 1950s with Ray Gaedke artwork. The box has the correct first circle logo. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This kit has a great history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull, cardstock but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. When the early Varney aircraft and ship kits did not sell well, Gorden Varney sold the molds for the kit to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock deck, metal railings and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he modified the molds for a third time so the kit has metal railings and all other parts are injection molded. That is this model.
