Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Second issue hardbox dated 1956, but the PA part number prefix probably means it is a year or two later. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Ike was built by Ben Howard near the Old Chicago Airport (now Midway) and first flew in competition during the Thompson Trophy Race in 1932. It finished 7th with William Ong at the controls. In 1933 she finished 3rd with Roy Minor as pilot at an average speed 8 mph above 1932. In 1934, she finished yet another 8 mph above '33 with Harold Neumann as pilot and finished 4th in the Thompson.

Hawk Gee Bee Racer - 1932 Thompson Trophy Winner, 1/48, 627-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1960 hardbox issue with artwork by Bill Campbell. This was one of the finer kits for that time, with excellent fit and finish, all fine recessed panel lines, pilot figure, detailed engine front, clear canopy and full decals. Molded in white and clear. Never started. 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. The Gee Bee was designed and built by Granville Brothers Aircraft Inc. of Springfield, Massachusetts. The radical design has a wingspan of only 25 feet and a length of 19 feet and 9 inches. The power plant was a supercharged Pratt & Whitney Wasp with an output of 800 hp through a Smith controllable-pitch propeller. Designed specifically to win air races and set speed records, the Gee Bee was a very fast but aerodynamically unstable aircraft. It's most famous pilot, Jimmy Doolittle, flew the ship to victory then walked away, saying that he would never fly it again. Many lost their lives in this legendary but unforgiving aircraft.

Sterling Northrop P-61 Black Widow - 37.5 inch Wingspan Flying Airplane, E-15

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare. Very high quality, scale kit designed for R/C, rubber power, gas or CO2, control line or non-flying super detail scale. Features quality die-cut balsa printwood and stripwood, diecut plywood, numerous crisp vacuform parts such as cowlings, cowl flap rings, spinners, wheels, turret and more, clear vacuform canopy and rear bubble in 'mint' condition, light-weight plastic and prop, hardware, rubber motor, fully formed wire landing gear, complete full color decals, covering tissue, superb full size plans that include building and flying instructions and conversion details for R/C and other forms of flight. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed Sterling bag while the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete with a paperwork. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they were very complete.
