Rare kit with motorizing option. Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today. The model has never been started. Excellent detail. Includes all parts and hardware needed for motorizing including motor. Advent issue. Large scale and highly detailed kit of the historic four-pipe destroyer. On March 8, 1942, the Campbeltown sailed up the Loire River. Her mission was to destroy the Normandie Drydock, a possible haven for the Tirpitz which was holed up on Norway at this time. The Campbeltown was disguised as a German warship and the bow was packed with 8500 lbs of high explosive depth charges. Under a RAF diversion, Campbeltown fought her way up the river and rammed the dock doors at full speed. Charges at the stern sank the back of the ship and she was wedged in the dock. During a German inspection 8 hours later, the charges went off, scattering parts of the ship up to one mile away. The dock was rendered useless to the Tirpitz, who now had to stay in Norway. The American is the famous yacht that was the first US ship to respond to the challenge from the British Royal Yacht Club. In August of 1851, she won the One-Hundred Guinea Cup in the race around the Isle of Wight. Never started and complete.
