Early issue from the 1960s of this unique 1/500 scale kit with rare glossy box art from the 'Golden Age' of Japanese model kit illustrations. Can be built as motorized full hull or static waterline version. Well detailed and molded. Includes original glue, and all hardware for motorizing, metal gear box for multi-prop drive and even the electric motor is included. Features well one piece lower hull (molded in red), one piece upper hull (molded in gray), detailed deck and superstructure, rotating main turrets and separately molded secondary battery and AA guns, catapults, floatplanes and more. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions.

Dime Scale models used to sell for a dime in the 1930's, hence the name. They are actually box scale, but as a general guideline, they usually had a wingspan of 16 inches and have simple and light construction. "Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s. Bagged kit - no box. Unique kit from 1968. This model features Monogram's excellent F8F and P-51B kits molded in Racing Blue and Bright Red, special racing decals, and a large scale heavy cardstock red/white checkerboard 3-D pylon with special stand arms for a 'in flight' display of both aircraft rounding the turn. Never started. NOTE: both special pylon stand arms are present, but the F8F is missing the stand that came with the regular kit. This will not be used if you mount the aircraft on the racing pylon. One part, a spinner base of the P-51B, is brown instead of red. The part is guaranteed 100% correct, but is from a different issue. Otherwise inventoried complete with all other parts, decals, instructions and red/white pylon in excellent condition.

Still factory sealed. Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today.
