Monogram De Havilland L-20 Beaver Bild'n Fly Series - 21 inch Wingspan Flying Model, 1/28, F2-149

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Rare. Purchased new on April 1, 1966 at Franks Model Shop in Cleveland, Ohio. The box copyright is dated 1960. This kit is from the large 'Bild'n Fly' series. This series was Monogram's most elaborate, colorful and realistic flying models. It was short-lived however, as by 1960 static (non-flying) plastic kits had become the #1 hobby of boys in the USA. The Bild'n Fly series included simplified assembly - no ribs or stringers. All balsa parts are color laminated and die cut - no tissue covering and all decoration is built in full color. There are 14 highly detailed plastic parts such as cowl, wheels, prop, oil cooler, etc. The windows are clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.

Carl Goldberg Models Ranger 21 - 21 inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model, D3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Purchased new on December 3, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. An excellent kit that is highly prefabricated - no tissue covering is used. Features all die-cut quality balsa fuselage sides, formers, wings and tails, formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, plastic prop, spinner and nose cowl, metal prop shaft and bushings, other wood parts as required, perfect die-cut clear canopy material, decals, inspection certificate, rubber motor and superb instructions with plans. Never started and inventoried complete. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. Needless to say, Goldberg's models are of the highest quality.
