Scientific 1910 Maxwell Two Seat Roadster, 1/16, 173-1295

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

From 1969. One of the finest wood and metal car kits ever produced. The car measures 7 inches long when assembled. The kit is very highly detailed. Features complete engine, exhaust, suspension and drive line - the kit builds up a rolling chassis just like the actual automobile. There are many cast metal parts- springs, horn, brake lever, steering wheel, flywheel, cowl lamps, steering knuckles, wheels, radiator, radiator screen, louvered hood, fenders and more. The engine itself is 17 parts. The tires are real rubber. The wood parts are either pre-shaped or on printwood with some stock materials. Includes clear windows, pre-cut convertible top material, two large sheets of full size plans, a sheet of photo taken of the completed model, detailed instructions, a hardwood display stand and more. The kit has never been started. The parts that were internal factory sealed are still sealed, and all other parts have been inventoried 100% complete including instructions and plans. Scientific may have planned an extensive line of these uniquely detailed kits - however, this was the only one ever issued. The very steep price of 12.95 in 1969 was probably more than enough to ensure a short production run and termination of the idea.

Life-Like 1936 Duesenberg SSJ LaGrande-Bodied Roadster - (ex-Pyro), 1/32, 09450

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1970s Life-Like issue from the original 1966 Pyro molds. Features detailed chassis, complete motor, removable hood, full interior and more. Molded in cream colored plastic, chrome plate, clear and with rubber tires. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of their kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to, in this case Gary Cooper and Clark Gable's automobiles. This was the Duesenberg Company's last great automobile before going out of business in 1937. The Model J was a superb automobile and the fastest and finest car of it's day. Never to be outdone, the two brothers made two supercharged 'Super-Duesenbergs' were constructed from J models and are referred to as SSJs. The out put was a whopping 400 bhp. (The term SSJ was never used by the factory.)

Aurora Avanti, 1/25, 560-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1963 issue and very well detailed for that time. Aurora's larger scale modern car kits were always miles ahead of their aircraft in quality and detail, and this one is no exception. Features rolling chassis construction like the real car including full exhaust, drive-line and suspension, detailed engine & engine compartment, opening hood, complete interior, opening doors, opening trunk with spare tire, tire cover, luggage for the trunk and more. Molded in gloss beige, clear, black and chrome with rubber tires. The chrome is in 'new' condition. The kit has never been started. The black parts are still factory bag sealed. The parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete with the instructions. It was surprising that Monogram did not reissue this kit - it certainly met their quality standards, just as the XKE and other ex-Aurora 1/25 cars did. Perhaps it was the lack of interested in the Avanti (at that time) that made the decision.

This versatile and ubiquitous design was produced from 1933 to 1948. Many were used by the Red Army in transport and ambulance roles at Khalkin-Gol and during the Great Patriotic War. The civil version was fondly remembered by Russian city dwellers and became an icon of the period, memorialized in a 1974 Russian commemorative postage stamp. (Thanks to Dusty Rhodes for that info). Nicely detailed model from all new molds. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.
