Scale Flight Comet's Fleet Special Biplane - 16 inch Wingspan Dime Scale Flying Airplane, Dime

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Scale Flight Model Company in Bloomington, Indiana, USA was dedicated to releasing authentic reproductions of the finest "Dime Scale" flying model (stick and tissue) kits from the 1930s/40s. Cleveland Travel-Air Mystery Ship Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, SF-2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Aurora Northrop N-156 (F-5 Prototype) Freedom Fighter, 1/48, 140-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

1962 issue with fantastic Jo Kotula box artwork. This kit is a very good representation of the rare 'Freedom Fighter' prototype N-156. It developed into the F-5, which was widely exported and saw service in over 30 countries. Only three of the N-156 prototypes were built. The design centered around two GE J85 turbojets which originally powered the ADM-20 Quail decoy carried by the B-52 fleet. Initially there seemed to be little demand until President Kennedy's Military Assistance Program required a low-cost fighter that could be provided to US Allies. The N-156 was easily the top choice. It was renamed the F-5 and the rest is history - it became one of the most widely used fighter/bombers in post-WWII history and is still in service in some air forces. Kit includes pilot, cockpit and instrument panel and three drop tanks and early AIM-9 Sidewinder Air-to-Air Missiles. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing one landing gear brace. This part is easily reproduced from pulled sprue or stock plastic. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions.

Revell Vostok - Russia's First Spacecraft, 1/24, H1844

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

1998 issue of the classic 1969 kit. Very large 1/24 scale. Well detailed kit of Major Yuri Gagarin's spacecraft. Gagarin's flight was the first of 6 successful Vostok launches from the secret space center at Baikonur. Gagarin made one orbit in 108 minutes, which was enough to make him the first man in space. Titov followed in Vostok 2 and made 17 orbits. Other launches featured 4 mile passes in orbit, and Vostok 6 featured the first Woman Astronaut, Valentina Tereshkova. It is interesting that Vostok did not have attitude control for correct placement when re-entering the earth's atmosphere. The sphere was designed with the weight off-center, so it would automatically swing into position during the heat of reentry. Features detachable crew compartment, ejecting seat and Cosmonaut figure. Molded in metallic silver and clear and includes display stand. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including instructions.

Wilseco Wilesco D20 Steam Engine / D4 Steam Engine / Workshop / Stamper / Fleischmann Quad Pulleys + Belts / More

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: No Box

Sold

Includes everything seen in the photos. Not kits but factory assembled antique toy steam engines with accessories. Wilesco D20 is in very good condition on it's original 13.5 x 11.5 inch base with very little wear. It has been used very few times since new. I had it running about 12 years ago and it ran fine; there was a small leak at the sight glass, so a brand-new sight glass, seals and washers is included. The Wilesco D4 on the original 8 by 5.75 inch base also ran about 12 years ago and is in very good condition with little wear as shown. Wilesco machine shop on it's original 10.5 x 8 inch base is very good with very little use. Stamper (probably Wilesco) is on a 5.25 x 2.5 inch base and rated 'good' with slightly more wear. Quad pulley set (base 7 x 3 inches) is marked Fleischmann and rated 'good'. Also included are W4/5 original instructions, original Wilesco Z83 oil (Dampfmachinen), both original funnels, numerous flexible spring drive belts, three partial containers of ESBIT fuel and several other original, small fittings.

Wagon Masters Chuck Wagon - 'Wagons of the Old West' -, 106

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Very nicely done kit from the late 1950s or early 1960s. The Chuck Wagon is a large and fairly elaborate kit with very good scale details for it's time. Measures 8 inches long when assembled (wagon only) or 16.5 inches long (wagon with rear table down and tongue). Kit consists of California redwood and sugar pine wooden parts all completely cut to shape, pre-assembled hardwood front and rear wagon wheels with spokes, canvas wagon cover, rope, scale hand tools and metal and brass stock as needed. Features metal sprung seat, full underside detail with axles, brake beam and shoes, reach, hound, cross bed tie, double tree and single trees, hand brake, water barrel, hinged rear board (table), tool box, interior shelves, wire frame, canvas cover and tongue with neck yolk. The kit has never been started. The metal fittings bag is still factory sealed. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete with instructions. Wagon Masters was out of 12551 Telegraph Rd, Sante Fe Springs, California. No zip code was listed, so the kits are definitely pre 1964. Wagon Masters had a ambitious line of wagons done in hardwood and metal; some had plastic details. Kit in the series included kit #100 Covered Wagon, #101 Conestoga Wagon, #103 Stage Coach, #102 Buckboard, #104 Ore Wagon (with genuine copper ore), #105 Ranch Wagon, #1-6 Chuck Wagon, Yellowstone Wagon, Jerkey Wagon, Sheepherder's Wagon, Drummers' Wagon, #950 Horse Team, #951 Mule Team and #952 Ox Team. All kits were done in the same scale, but the scale was not listed. Other kits may have been issued. In the mid 1960s it appears that the entire line was sold to CraftMaster. CraftMaster put their stickers on some of the later model Wagon Master boxes before converting over to all CraftMaster artwork.
