Pyro 1932 Chevrolet Cabriolet, 1/32, C291-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Late 1960s Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of its kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. This model is very nicely molded with very good detail featuring full underside and chassis, spoked wheels and complete interior. Molded in dark green and clear. The box states that it can be converted to a 'road racing' or slot car. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Sterling Stearman PT-17 Kaydet Dusts Crops in Flight - 22 Inch Wingspan for R/C / Control Line / Free Flight, A2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Very nicely produced stick-and-tissue model that actually releases 'crop dust' in flight. Can be flown with rubber, electric or gas control line or converted to RC with modern lightweight systems. Features high quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, other wood and metal stock as required, light plastic engine, exhaust and pilot bust, clear dual die-cut windscreens, rubber motor, plastic prop, a big set of decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE there is some bug damage to the backing paper only on the decals. The actual transfers are free of damage. The box is only 'fair' and not collectible; the kit inside is fine and an ideal builder. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

There are three decal choices - operational US Marines or Navy and a very colorful F6F-5K Target Tug version. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including decals and instructions.

Airfix Boeing 314 Pan Am Clipper - 'Dixie' or BOAC 'Berwick', 1/144, 1415-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

1960s Craftmaster issue. Very well molded and detailed older kit with decals for both aircraft. Never started. It has been inventoried and NOTE: missing one part, front clear windshield. Otherwise complete with all other parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: three small parts are a different color plastic; they are from a later issue of this same kit. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats.

Pyro Monitor United States Ironclad, C258-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sale Pending
Email for availability.

Rare early issue of the Monitor alone. Usually this kit is only seen in the release that contains it and the Merrimac. Great hardbox artwork by AJ Rudisill from the late 50s. The Monitor was one of two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862. The Monitor is 10 inches long when built, is a full hull model and includes a display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Please NOTE: the instructions have a short closed tear and a small stain from old tape (which has fallen off); also, one blade is broke from the prop at the base but the blade is present for an easy repair. Although dated, the Pyro Monitor and Merrimac kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg models of the same ships.

Comet North American F-100 Super Sabre - 12.7 Inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Airplane - Coke Bottle Issue, R10-59

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Rare. 1950s issue flying model with the box art showing a Coke next to the young builders snack plate and finished product. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with high quality printwood, stripwood, wooden stock as required, clear vacuform canopy, fully formed wheels, covering tissue and detailed full size plans/building instructions with notes on how to fly the model. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
