IHP IJN No. 13-16 Battleship Class - Japan 8-8 Fleet Program 1921 Design - Hull Plus Large Parts Only - Imperial Hobby Productions, 1/700, SLP-1

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

This kit consist of a beautiful high-definition resin cast waterline hull and the ship's large & unique parts. These parts include 4x main turrets, funnel, 6 levels of superstructure parts and the aft mainmast base structure. Like all IHP 'hull + unique/large parts' models, you will need another kit (or two) to completely detail it. In some cases the Pit Road/Skywave sets of "Equipment For Japan Navy Ships" works well for even finer details. Never started. The hull is in mint condition. The small parts are still factory sealed. Includes instructions with excellent drawings and references. The Number 13-class battleship was a planned class of four fast battleships to be built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the 1920s. The ships never received any names, being known only as Numbers 13–16. They were intended to reinforce Japan's "eight-eight fleet" of eight battleships and eight battlecruisers after the United States announced a major naval construction program in 1919. The Number 13 class was designed to be superior to all other existing battleships, planned or building. After the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty in 1922, they were canceled in November 1923. In the words of naval historian Siegfried Breyer, "had [the ships] been completed, they would have been the world's largest and most powerful battleships. Their gun calibre alone would have caused a new and more intensive naval arms race. From an engineering aspect they were more than ten years ahead of their time because they anticipated the characteristics of the fully developed, fast battleship." Naval architects William Garzke and Robert Dulin concur saying, "These ships would have completely outclassed any European battleship." The Number 13 class was designed by Captain Yuzuru Hiraga, the naval architect responsible for most of the previous Japanese capital ships. The ships were based on his previous Kii-class battleship and Amagi-class battlecruiser designs, enlarged to take 18 inch guns.

IHP Kreuzer P Projekt 1938 - Hull / Conversion - Imperial Hobby Productions, 1/700, 270022

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

This is the waterline hull only and is beautifully cast in high-definition resin. Like all IHP 'hull' models, you will need another kit (or two) to complete them. In some cases the Pit Road/Skywave sets of "Equipment For Navy Ships" works well also. The hull is in mint condition and that is all that is included. The Kreuzer P hull is 13" long in this scale. The design for the 'P' Cruisers was birthed with the armored ships of the Deutschland class. These first appeared in 1931 and were Germany's first attempt at a new navy under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. In the early years of WWII these ships were used as commerce raiders with some success. But in the years before the war, the Kreigsmarine was already thinking of expanding on the design concept for use in surface commerce raiding. A design called Kreuzer "P" (Panzer) was drawn up. The basic armament of the Deutchland class was retained on a new, longer hull. A higher speed was envisioned with better protection. The class would have had twin funnels and for the first time on a German capital ship, a transom stern. The ships would also have carried torpedoes and aircraft, the latter in a hanger under the aft funnel. Twelve of these ships were envisioned under the "Z" Plan but none were laid down. The Kreuzer "P" tactical requirement was revised later in favor of a 15-inch gunned battle cruiser (OPQ class), which also was never built.

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Very rare and still factory tape sealed. This is the full, complete kit and not the conversion only. Made in Scotland by Accurate Armour and now out of production. This is a highly detailed model of high-definition cast resin. The Charioteer was a 1950s conversion of existing Cromwell Tank hulls to mount the very powerful 20pdr (83.4mm) gun, in a lightly armoured turret. The vehicle was a panic measure to enable the UK to field as many of these guns as possible against new Warsaw Pact AFV’s which intelligence reports had grossly overrated in terms of performance.

FM Nord 1500 Griffon II, 1/72, 7201

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Rare model of this unusual Mach 2+ ramjet/turbojet design. The kit is injection molded with fine recessed panel lines, photoetched parts, resin details, metal landing gear and full decals. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Griffon was duel propulsion like the Leduc 022; a turbojet was used for takeoff and got the airplane to speed, where the ramjet took over. The Griffon performed well, reaching a top speed of Mach 2.19 in 1958. It could have gone faster, but surface temperatures limited the top speed. However, there were also difficulties with the ramjet design and large fuel consumption. The program was canceled due to current military budget restrictions and in favor of the much more conventional (and affordable) Mirage family of fighters by Dassault.
