Revell Moon Ship (XSL-01) 'S' Issue, 1/96, H1825-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+++

$395

Rare 1957 first and only issue in almost impossible to find, investment-grade "Near Mint+++" condition. The box looks like it was just removed from the Revell shipping box with no more slight wear than you would expect from the production line. Many would argue this kit is "Mint", but I hesitate to call anything 'Mint' as you know. When sales of the dramatic XSL-01 Moon Rocket did not meet expectations, Revell molded the top stage in a different color plastic from the XSL-01, added a special 3D Moon Base Stand and boxed it as a stand-alone kit. The result was this Moon Ship with incredible box art. The box art invites you to 'Enter the Age of Space' with these action features: retractable landing ski, removable fuselage section with detailed cabin with controls and instrument panels and a crew of three astronauts. Molded in correct baby blue and clear plastic. This model has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Even the factory tissue packing paper is present. The decals are perfectly flat and in 'excellent++' with slight yellowing as the only flaw. The instructions are also 'near mint' with the only flaw being slight age foxing to two small areas.

Flaws included light general wear as shown. Large scale and well detailed featuring two stage missile with moving top stage forward fins, working launcher with instrumentation and a crew of three. Very rare. This is the original hardbox issue USS Helena from 1960 and not the 1990s reissue. It has the beautiful John Steel painting suitable for framing. The kit contains decals to build any of these sister ships - Los Angeles - Fall River - Baltimore - Pittsburg - Columbus - Bremerton - Canberra - Toledo - Quincy - Chicago - St. Paul - Macon - Boston. Revell USS Norton Sound Rocket Launcher Missile Test Ship, 1/424, H331-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$550

Fresh from a long-closed down hobby shop. Very rare kit from 1956; the molds were altered to make the class seaplane tender, which made any reissue impossible. The box has wonderful color and gloss, four solid corners, no creases, no fading, rips or tears, no stains, no price tag or tag marks and no tape or tape marks - this box even escaped the factory tape sealing machine! There is very light general wear and moderate wear to the lower right short side for 1" by 1/16". The prototype Norton Sound was originally a seaplane tender and was converted to an ocean-going laboratory for development and testing of guided missiles and rockets. This ship was key in the Navy's move into the guided missile age. The model features working cranes, operating launching platform for the Viking missile, Terrier with launcher, Jeeps and Lark missile. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is exactly as it left the factory. The small parts and decals are still factory sealed in the Revell clear bag. The larger parts were never sealed and are inventoried complete. Includes flag sheet and instructions. Instructions are in 'near mint' condition with the typical age yellowing as the only flaw. Decals are still factory sealed and would grade the same as the instructions.

Revell Air Power CBS Gift Set F-100C F-101A F-102 F-89D B-57B With S Cement - 'S' Issue, G240-495

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$795

1956 first and only issue in remarkable condition inside and out - the finest I have ever seen. The box top is in 'Excellent++' condition. It has factory-new color and gloss, no creases, fading, stains, holes or tears. There are no price tags, no tag marks and no tape or tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape of course). There are no marks from the decorative ribbon Revell shipped them with, which is very rare. Flaws include: light and isolated general wear, some edge and corner wear and two old original store stamped prices (discounts) on the left short panel that have been neatly blacked out. Inside, it is exactly as it left the factory and contains a colorful, factory-sealed tube of Revell S Cement, all five aircraft models with the two correct dividers. All five kits are still in the factory sealed clear bags. The tray (lower box) is in 'excellent' condition. All kits contain the famous Revell clear 'Globe' stand. It would be difficult to find a better example of this kit, especially since there is no ribbon stain on the box top.

Revell Westinghouse Atomic Power Plant - 'S' Issue, 1/192, H1550-695

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$799

In 1959 Revell produced this incredibly detailed 'educational' kit of a standard Nuclear Plant in cooperation with Westinghouse. The kit was never reissued. It is fairly complicated kit with hundreds of parts, a full interior to the power plant and the auxiliary buildings and towers shown on the box top. The parts were molded in five colors to minimize painting. Features clear nuclear reactor vessel, separating reactor dome for full view of interior, movable gantry with operational hoist, working reactor hoist, circulating pumps, steam generator, turbine, electrical substation, high tension power lines, silver power 'wire', flag and flag pole, power plant sign and much more. The kit has never been started. NOTE: includes all power plant, all buildings towers and 'wire' but is MISSING the service truck, figures, clear printed fence, paper mat and nuclear power booklet. Includes all other parts, decals and instructions.

Revell Grumman F9F-8 Cougar - First Issue Pre-'S' 1 Piece Box - (F9F8), 1/52, H203-59

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$349

Very rare. Seldom seen, true first release one piece box from 1953. The kit is 100% correct. This kit is one of Revell's first three aircraft kits, all packed in this type of box. Revell soon learned that this box was inadequate for plastic models, so they quickly moved to the two-piece hardbox (a medium weight cardboard box folded to shape and glued together with a litho 'slick'). I have graded this box 'Excellent' due to the factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners, four intact small flaps and two intact large flaps (with no repairs) and no tape or tape marks. Flaws include a very light crease at the upper right, very slight general wear and a 5/8 inch square price tag pull on the right short side. It is in exceptional condition for this kit due to the weak nature of the box design. The early kit inside is 100% correct. As was correct for this issue only, it has no landing gear or rivet detail. The decals are the correct early version from "The Colortone Co." and the instructions are printed on the back of the box. These kit comes with the unique solid color two piece stand (as shown in the instructions) molded in the same color as the aircraft. This stand was only used for the first three Revell aircraft kits (F9F, Cutlass and F-94) and Revell's first Gift Set with these three aircraft. The model is molded in the correct dark gloss blue with a clear canopy. The model has never been started. It is inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions (on the back of the box). The decals are intact and not age cracked, but have the typical age foxing to the backing paper. The actual transfers have no foxing and are clean.

Sterling Stinson Reliant SR-8 Gull Wing - 57 inch Wingspan Aircraft for RC, FS-33

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+++

$210

Still factory sealed; there is a seal split on the left short side. Very large and high quality kit with 57 9/16 inch wingspan. Designed for RC and .40 to .56 size engines, but easily converted to electric power. Features top grade die cut and numbered balsa parts, step by step full size plans with instructions, scale decals, linkage hardware, vacuform cowl, wheel pants, strut fairings, formed aluminum landing struts and much more. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits and they are still highly popular to this day.

Estes Saturn V Limited Edition - Flying Model Rocket, 1/100, EST2157

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

$110

This is the Saturn V that is 43.25 inches high and 3.93 inches in diameter. Recommended engine is the D12-3. The kit has never been started. All of the parts that Estes factory sealed are still in the factory sealed bags. The larger parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete. Includes decals and all instructions. The box has damage as shown, but inside the kit is very nice. The decals & vacuform wrapping are in 'mint' condition. All body tubes but one are very straigh; the large BT101 body tube is not creased or bent but is oval in shape. I have carefully packed it with wadded up paper to bring it back out and protect it during shipping. BT101 tubes are available on line from at least one vendor.
