Cox Cox Curtiss A-25 (SB2C Helldiver) Army Dive Bomber with Dropping Bomb - Gas Powered Control Line Airplane, 7100-1098

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare pre zip-code (<1964) .049 gas powered control line aircraft with a 20 inch wingspan. And it drops bombs in flight! The Blue Navy Helldiver version can be found, but this is the rare olive drab Army version. Even more unusual, it is mint in the box, straight from old store stock. The outer box has brilliant color, all solid corners and no tape. It does have light wear, as these thin boxes usually do. Inside, the model is as new except the adjustment knob has come off the mixture control. Other than that, the aircraft is flawless, just as it left the factory. Since the aircraft has never been flown or started, it is clean as new. The internal packing material that holds the aircraft in place is as new and is not torn. The accessories - the dropping bomb, pilot, antenna and cables are still in the factory sealed bag. The U-control handle is still affixed to the box side as it was at the factory. The paperwork is complete and mint also, including the instructions, the 'Bob and jack start their Cox Thimble-Drome Plane...' cartoon, yellow fuel use warning sheet and 'Inspected by 114' paper. It would be difficult to find a better example.

Lindberg British Battleship Hood - Motorized, 1/400, 763M

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Rare motorized 1st issue is still factory sealed. Could easily be made RC with today's small FM components. This is a wonderful motorized kit that sails well. On electric motor drives the ship on a course that you pre-set - figure 8, straight or circle. While sailing at a good rate of speed, the four main turrets slowly swing from port to starboard together and the guns elevate. I remember sailing mine for years before the batteries died in the middle of the lake.

Sold

1953 early issue molded in white plastic and it includes colorful decals for the van sides for the 'Gowland's Bakery'. Never started. It has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

ITC Savoia-Marchetti S-55 Flying Boat - Ringo Issue, 1/96, C548-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG++

Sold

Still factory sealed but the box is only good. The first aircraft to fly across the Atlantic in formation! The S-55 was a unique aircraft with the passenger compartments in the floats and the cockpit in the wing; the two engines are mounted in tandem push/pull above the cockpit. The S-55 proved to be very reliable and airworthy, setting 14 world records for speed, altitude and distance with a payload. Three months before Lindbergh's solo Atlantic flight, and S-55 flew with stops from Italy to Rio and NY City. In 1933 Marshal Balbo led 25 S-55s to Chicago in about 48 hours. He then flew back without incident. This is from the original ITC molds. Ringo was in charge of cleaning out ITC inventory when ITC quit the model business.
