Berkeley Junkers Ju-87 Stuka Drops Bombs - 27 Inch Wingspan For Free Flight or RC Conversion

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$95

Very early Berkeley kit. Stuka features 27 inch wingspan and unique 'Automatic Bomb-Release During Flight'. Rubber powered model. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Monogram Boeing B-52 Stratofortress with Jet Sound, 1/72, PA215

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$179

First issue dated 1968 of this legendary kit that features realistic 'Jet Sound.' Well detailed with 207 parts. Features crew of three and cockpit, elevating and traversing rear turret, opening and closing bomb bay doors, operating wing flaps, operating spoilers, optional position entry hatch and landing gear, and optional parts to display one nacelle open to show the jet engine. When you open the box, the white printed cardboard display presentation is still present, in 'new' condition and still contains a mint tube of 'Monoglue' plastic cement. The instructions, B-52 Book and decals are present and in 'excellent' condition as well, but the decals have curled ends. The kit has never been started. The motor and hardware are still in the factory sealed bag. The plastic parts, which were never factory sealed, have been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The box displays much better than the 'good++' grade but I have graded it as such because there is a closed tear on one side panel and some clear tape formerly used to hold the box shut. You can safely remove the clear tape by soaking it in lighter fluid; this will render the tape adhesive useless, and then the tape will come off easily.

Hawk Lockheed Constellation L-749 - One Piece 1948 Box Issue, 1/140, 702

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$175

Very rare. This kit is from 1949, and even predates the Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' that started the plastic model craze in the United States. Hawk was a producer of wooden kits (with with metal details) before and after WWII, and was one of the handful of manufacturers to produce such kits (known as 'solids') in a consistent 1/48 scale. Hawk made aircraft, ship and train models in this fashion. The very first injection molded aircraft kits in the United States were made by Varney or Hawk in 1946, but they did not catch on quickly. Hawk was always an innovative and quality-driven company, and they took a gamble on injection molded kit well before they were popular. As early as 1946 they issued the 1/48 Curtiss R3C-1 with wheels. Like Varney's Fleet Sub and PT-17, they were shunned by hobby dealers. Hawk persisted with the 'Evolution of the Jet' gift set in 1948 and issued several kits - the Supermarine S6B, Gee-Bee, Howard Ike, Laird (all in acetate) and the F-84G and this Constellation (both in polystyrene). All were in the two-tone one-piece box. This model is molded in the correct glossy medium gray with a unique early stand. The model was issued with instructions but did not come with decals. The instructions tell you that '...the plane is molded in the proper base color, and if you intend to paint your favorite air-line markings be sure to use good enamel (not lacquer). The kit has never been started. The contents are either in the factory sealed bag or have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Construct-A-Plane Aeronca C-2 Monoplane - Balsa Aircraft Model, 1/37

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$44

Rare kit from the very early 1930s. The Aeronca C-2 was the first light aircraft in the United States. It was the first such aircraft to be certified by the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Aeronautics. The aircraft created an audience of pilots that did not previously exist - private individuals. For the first time, they had an affordable, easy to fly and safe aircraft. They were produced from 1929 through 1932 and sold for just under $1300. Kit is near 1/32 scale. Contains excellent full-size plans, balsa wood for fuselage and wings, printed balsa for all other parts, original yellow and red glass paint vials with cork seals, turned wheels, cast metal prop, insignia, sandpaper and celluloid. The wings have been very neatly started. No other assembly. Complete with all parts except the original glue.

Aurora Old Timers 1911 Buick Bug, 1/16, 574-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$129

1963 first issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss dark green, gloss ivory and with plated parts and real rubber tires. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.
