"Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Pyro Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Oyster Boat 'Carrie Price', 1/60, B269-125

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc++

Sold

Still factory sealed. Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today.

Hawk Supermarine Swift, 1/72, 607-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

Sold

The Swift was a very early jet fighter to replace the Supermarine Attacker. A very capable aircraft, the Swift suffered numerous accidents early on. As a result, less than 200 were ever built and it did not see combat. It did hold a world speed record for a short time, only to have a Douglas Skyray take the record a few hours later. The problems were ironed out, but by then the Hawker Hunter was proving very capable and there was no need for the Swift and it's RAF service life was short. The most successful version was the PR variant. Early Hawk hardbox issue. Very cleanly molded kit that builds very nicely. Can be assembled with or without landing gear. Never started. NOTE: missing one square gear door which could be made from stock plastic. Otherwise inventoried complete with all other parts, decals and instructions.
