Lindberg Russian Mig-19, 1/48, 521-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

1950s rare issue. Ray Gaedke hardbox artwork has excellent color and gloss. This is a large scale (1/48) 'theoretical' Mig-19. The aircraft never existed in this configuration. However, Aurora made one almost just like it; it is believed that they both used the same magazine drawing as the basis for the Mig models. Molded in high gloss silver and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

AMT 1960 Mercury Park Lane 3 in 1 Kit - 2 Door Hardtop, 1/25, 3360-139

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Very rare early hardbox issue. Nicely molded and detailed kit for that time. Molded in ivory white, clear, red-tint clear, chrome and black rubber whitewall tires. Chrome and windshield are excellent for this model. The kit has never been started. The stock version has been inventoried complete. NOTE: the custom version is missing a custom grill insert. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions. NOTE: the decal are the ones that AMT put in most of the kits from 1959/1960/1961 and they are in very good condition. They do not match the drawings on the instructions, which is not unusual for these kits.

Revell USS Kearsarge Historic Civil War Steam Sloop, 1/96, H391

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Ideal builder; please read below. Hard-to-find issue dated 1971. Includes beautiful John Steel framable box art titled 'Victory Off Cherbourg', site of the Kearsarge's famous duel with the Confederate ship Alabama off the coast of France. Very large 1/96 scale ship that measures 34.5 inches long when assembled. Very highly detailed and well molded. Features pre-formed ratlines, two position gun ports, guns that turn and elevate, movable propeller, special stand, name plate and 20 action figures. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing one tiny pin #23. This part cannot be seen when the kit is assembled; it attaches a cannon to the deck. Easily made from round stock or pulled sprue. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts. One fire bucket is a lighter shade of brown; it is from the earlier issue. Includes two types of rigging material, metal chains, rat lines, rat line cutting pattern, instructions, rigging diagrams and flag sheet. NOTE: missing the historical booklet. NOTE: The rat line cutting sheet and rigging diagrams are professional photocopies. The rigging diagrams are on the same size very large paper as the original ones. NOTE: this is not the version with the factory painted hull. Also, the chainplate/deadeye assembles are very fragile and well-known for breaking. This kit is no exception. But I have accounted for all broken parts and they are present, and sealed into small zip lock bags for safe keeping.

ITO Model Boat Kit Dual Cockpit Runabout

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Very rare kit from the 1950s. Almost everyone knows about the beautiful and valuable wooden toy boats that were made in Japan after WWII. But what many people do not know is that they were also issued as pre-fabricated kits of very high quality. All parts are hardwood and cut to shape - there is no cutting needed. Glue and brass nails are furnished as well, with full instructions. This one comes in its original box, which is in fantastic 'near mint' investment grade condition. The kit inside is exactly as it left the factory. All parts and instructions are still in the factory bag and have never been removed.

Lindberg US Fleet Submarine (ex-Varney), 1/240, 703-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Rare kit with a fascinating history. These molds may well be the oldest production ship kit in US plastic modeling history. The kit started as the Varney Fleet Sub in the mid 1940s. It is widely believed that it was the very first USA all-plastic construction kit of a military vessel. Varney produced an all plastic aircraft kit at the same time, the PT-17. It is the #1 candidate for the first plastic airplane kit in the USA. Varney was a famous manufacture of model trains, first O then a leader in HO models. The two new additions did not sell very well - remember, the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' had yet to be issued, so the boom in modeling had not occurred. Varney soon sold the molds for the Fleet Sub and the PT-17 to O-Lin (along with the molds for a fantastic multi-media kit with a wooden hull and plastic fittings, the Varney PT Boat ). O-Lin was a joint venture by Paul Lindberg and Mr. Olsen. O-Lin successfully issued the PT Boat (the PT Boat was given an injection molded hull and deck), PT-17 Stearman and Fleet Sub but modified the molds for the Sub. The original Varney kit had a solid, one-piece black hull and gray fittings. O-Lin engineers created a two-piece hull that provided a hollow hull and made from the same shot of plastic as the fittings. The 'Lin' in O-Lin, Paul Lindberg, was already well known for his publication of articles and plans for flying model aircraft in some of the leading aviation publications in the 1940/50s. Mr. Lindberg soon bought out Mr. Olsen and began marketing the same O-Lin kits under 'The Lindberg Line'. One immediate change was the box art. O-Lin box art was usually two or three color and not very exciting. Near the end of O-Lin, the partners asked Ray Gaedke to provide some box art. The bright colors and vivid action were an immediate hit, and Paul Lindberg took this lesson and Mr. Gaedke's artwork along to the new 'Lindberg Line'. Lindberg continue to issue the old Varney kits with the O-Lin modifications. The kit has been issued by a resurgent Lindberg as late at 2009, likely making it the longest running plastic ship kit in US history. This model is in superb investment condition. The Ray Gaedke box art has perfect color as gloss as new. The box is near mint with only very slight wear as the only flaw. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.
