She was powered with a 3000 hp supercharged Rolls Royce engine and won the Championship in 1977. Her 'rooster tail' alone was 7 tons of airborne water!

Rare large flying model in the 'Coca-Cola' bottle box. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of sight, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, detailed full size plans, building instructions, hardware, wheels and canopy material (if required), tissue and propeller. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

This came from the estate of a very particular builder/collector who kept the clear and chrome parts in separate bags, keeping them in 'as new' condition. Excellent kit with very good detail. Includes parts to build one of three versions. Stock version features detailed Mercury V-8 engine and engine compartment, full interior, opening hood and trunk, very good underside and suspension detail with separately molded front and rear suspension, fuel tank, rear shocks, drive shaft, exhaust, tie rods, steering gear and spindles. Custom version parts include 412 Chrysler ram-induction V8 engine, dropped front end with reversed chrome wheels, baby moon caps, rear drag slicks, tunneled headlights, floating grill bar, rolled pans, spotlights, interior center console, floor shift, gauges, phone, TV, tape recorder, custom steering wheel, custom bullet tail lights, dual side pipes and more. Although designed for the Pacific battles, the Midway and her sisters did not see service in WWII. The Midway was the first surface ship to launch a ballistic missile.
