Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

The parts are still sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and the kit is complete with instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Unknown Raytheon MIM-23 Hawk Missile Battery Original Painting on Canvas

Other Materials,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

This is a 20 x 15.25 inch original painting of a Hawk Missile Battery. Likely dates from the 1960s/1970s. The quality of the work is professional. It appears to be done in oils, but I cannot be sure of that. The canvas is stretched and attached to a very sturdy wooden frame. This is not any model box art that I am aware of, but appears to be the original artwork for Raytheon advertising or a privately commissioned work. The painting does need to be cleaned, which local artists or studios can do.

Onondaga Pottery Company Lackawanna Railroad Oval Serving Platter (Early 1900s) - 13.5 x 9.3 inches

Other Materials,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

For you rail fans out there - an all original early 1900s railroad china oval serving platter from the famous Onondaga Pottery Company, Syracuse, New York. Used on either a Lackawanna Railroad dining car or Commissary. Measures 13.5 inches wide and 9.3 inches tall. It has never been touched up. No rim or face chips or cracks. There is a small narrow 1/8 inch long chip in the glazing on the back at the rim where the piece would sit on a table. The gloss is excellent but it has consistent crazing and medium brown stains as shown. Numerous website discuss the removal of such stains, but I did not attempt it. The back is stamped 'O.P.CO. Syracuse China.' which was used from 1897 to 1946. The date code is impressed into a circle - this further narrows the date to pre 1920. The date code is clearly in a circle, so it certainly dates from 1903 to 1911, which is when this date code was used. Unfortunately, the date circle is poorly impressed in the piece and is difficult to read. To my best guess - the final number in the circle is a 6. I cannot read the first number, so it could be anywhere in the 1903 to 1911 range. The weight and manufacturing flaws verify this date range. The piece will be double boxed and insurance is required.
