Aurora Boeing B-29 Superfortress, 1/76, 372-259

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare 1957-1962 issue retaining the same artwork as the 1956 issue. This kit has arguably the most dramatic and fanciful B-29 composition from the 'Golden Era' of modeling. Note the square 'Northern Lights' logo has been replaced with the 'Famous Fighters' Aurora sunburst oval logo and there is NO '$2.59' price circle at the upper right. I believe the 4rd issue as the 3rd one has the price circle. The box has four solid corners, good color but significant general wear and tear as shown. Molded in gloss silver and clear, with a big clear 'triangle-based' Aurora stand. NOTE: the tail gunner's clear canopy has had glue on it at one point. It was not installed, but you can see the glue. One engine front has been painted black. There is no other painting or glue on the kit and zero assembly. NOTE: missing one part, the small cylindrical 'upright' (shock) for the tail skid. Easily made from pulled sprue or stock plastic. Inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions present. NOTE: the decals are 'excellent' except for a tear on one 'star and bar.' Responding to market information that boys wanted larger kits, Aurora introduced the B-26 followed by the B-29 and B-25, all of which sold well for many years- almost right up until the end.

Ideal Aeroplane & Supply CV-7 USS Wasp Aircraft Carrier - 18.5 Inch Long Wooden Ship Kit

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very rare kit from 1941. Measured 18.5 inches long when assembled. Nicely designed kit that includes a very unusual detailed hanger deck assembly. Issued shortly before the war, the model was not reissued after the war since the Wasp was lost off Guadalcanal by what is likely the most damaging submarine torpedo salvo in history. Includes completely pre-molded and shaped wood-material hull in excellent, solid and straight condition, 5 sheets of cleanly done printwood, wood stock in many shapes and sizes, a sealed fittings packet (I can tell that it contains at least the oval funnel) and two packs of Casco Glue. Includes excellent full size plans and instructions. The plans show numerous detail view of the ships substructure and a detailed view of the hanger deck, flight deck with pre-war markings and island. Never started. Factory sealed fittings bag with the other parts inventoried complete with instructions.

Guillows Nieuport 28 - 18 inch Wingspan Rubber Powered Balsa Wood Kit, WW-2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. From 1965. One of a very popular line of World War 1 flying aircraft stick and tissue kits with 18 inch wingspan. Kit features scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, light vacuform nose cowl, die cut balsa parts, colored tissue, rubber motor and full decals. Includes full size detailed plans. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Comet Curtiss Jenny JN-4D - 24 inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Model Airplane, 3304-198

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

From the 1960s. Large 24" wingspan flying kit can be powered by rubber, electric and made into RC with today's tiny and lightweight servos and receivers. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with quality, die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood, fully formed wheels, spars and wood & metal stock as required, rubber motor, plastic prop, metal prop shaft/rubber hook, wood thrust button, waterslide decals, 2 colors of covering tissue and detailed, full-size plans and building instructions. Never started and complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
