Since the USSR did not have a definitive heavy bomber doctrine, only between 81 and 93 were built, but they lead active service lives. In use, the PE-8s performance matched Western Heavy Bombers designed during the same time. In August of 1941, PE-8s bombed Berlin. They were used to attack long range targets in German-held Eastern Europe, as well as for tactical support during the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. It was a PE-8 that flew over German airspace between May 19th and June 13th in 1942 to deliver USSR Foreign Minister Molotov and his delegation from Moscow to London and then to Washington DC and back for talks on grand strategy against Nazi Germany. As a testament to the soundness of the design, PE-8s remained in service till the 1950s, even after the Tu-4 was available.

Monogram Midget Racer - The First Monogram Plastic Kit, 1/24, P1

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare first issue without decals and with early non-decal instructions. In the late 1940s/early 1950s, Monogram began to use injection molded details in the famous Speedee-Bilt and SuperKit aircraft models. The parts chosen for injection molding were generally difficult to carve from wood. From this experience, Monogram was ready to embark on all-plastic models. The first effort was kit number P-1 in 1954, the 1/24 scale Midget Racer. The box is the correct hardbox dated 1954. The advertising on the outside is unique and is used to promote this new type of model and the ease of assembly. The kit and sub-assemblies are pictured and named on the sides. This box grades 'excellent' and has wonderful color and gloss, solid original corners, no price tags or tape and no tears. The only wear is general scuffs. The box bottom grades 'near mint.' Inside, the kit is molded in the correct red acetate high-gloss plastic. The parts are still flexible and have very little of the typical acetate warping- so this was an unusually stable batch of acetate that was correctly molded. The instructions are correctly labeled P-1 and are near mint. The give-away that this is the true first edition is that the kit was issued without decals. The second issue has decals and modified instructions showing a new drawing with the decals on the model. The correct die-cut windshield is included as well. It has never been started and has been inventoried 100% complete. A great piece for the advanced collector.

Idea North American P-51D Mustang - USAF or South Korean Air Force, 1/72, 1514

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has split. Mold origins are not known. Nicely molded kit featuring very fine raised panel detail and recessed control surfaces, detailed engine and firewall, removable cowls, very nice cockpit detail, two-piece canopy, positionable rear scoops, optional position landing gear, bomb, drop tanks or rocket loadouts and decals for the two aircraft listed. The side offers an interesting history of the Mustang, which I will repeat part of here with the original spelling and punctuation - 'It is a masterpiece of propeller fighter having, as the first of its kind, less air resistance, excellent movability and solid body. With the Arison Enine, developed for low sky flight, it showed lack of flying high and its capcity weakened in flying high. Air Forces of the Britain put it into the Support Corps for the Army.'
