Aurora 1909 Stanley Steamer Model E2 Runabout - 'American Classic' Issue, 1/16, 154

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+++

Sold

1974 issue of Aurora's 'American Classics.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the others in the series (originally the 'Old Timers') represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features over 80 parts, separately molded suspension, exhaust and drive shaft, detailed full interior, side mount spare and more. Molded in gloss dark green, gloss yellow, clear and with brass plated parts and real white rubber tires. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

Scale Flight Comet's Stearman 76 Biplane - 16 inch Wingspan Dime Scale Flying Airplane, Dime

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

They are actually box scale, but as a general guideline, they usually had a wingspan of 16 inches and have simple and light construction. "Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s. Guillows De Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk -17 inch Wingspan Rubber Powered Balsa Wood Kit, 903-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Roughly 1970s scale stick and tissue rubber powered flying model. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
