Comet USS Perch SS-176 Porpoise Class Submarine, 1/300, K12

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Rare. The plans call this the Perch but have a 'P5' designator on the conning tower. From the layout I believe it to be SS176 - but there was a time when "P" codes were used on American submarines. This model measures 12 inches long when complete and features a factory 3D carved hull that needs sanded to the round shape, three sheets of quality printwood, wood stock, sandpaper and even a big glass bottle of Comet 'gray' dope that is still good! The plans are excellent and show hull sections, many detail drawings and have instructions and paint guide. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts.

Comet Piper Cub - 25 inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Airplane Model, 3206-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1970s reissue of the older kit. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, detailed full size plans, quality printwood and stripwood, wheels, rubber motor, tissue and propeller. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Renwal The Visible Airplane Engine WASP 9 Cylinder Radial by Pratt & Whitney, 1/4, 809

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

From the late 1950s. Very large (1/4 scale) and highly detailed kit. By far the finest working visible aircraft engine kit ever made. Comes with electric motor, gear and battery boxes and all hardware. Transparent housings permit viewing the correctly working pistons, valves, rocker arms, connecting rods, cam and gears in action with synchronized firing of the spark plugs using red electric bulbs. Propeller also changes pitch. Kit is molded in clear, red, black, blue metallic and gray plastic. Inside, the kit is as it left the factory. The inner (bottom or tray) box is excellent, and all cardboard inserts and clear panels are intact as shown and display very well. The outer box has seen significant wear as you can see. It had closed splits along the seams (corners and one side) and I correctly fixed those from the inside with card stock and book binding glue. The kit has not been started. It has been very carefully inventoried and the plastic parts are 100% complete. The metal parts and bulbs are all still in factory sealed envelopes. The Renwal cement is present and mint. Includes all the factory paperwork- instructions, parts sheet, yellow lubrication warning, small Renwal catalog and special booklet on 'The Aircraft Engine and How It Operates.' All of these are in 'excellent' to 'near mint' condition. It is amazing that this kit is complete - most of these models, even if still factory sealed, are missing parts due to poor packing procedures.

Large and well molded, featuring all recessed panel lines, high-definition cast resin details, clear windows and a large decal sheet with full American Airlines markings and stripes. AMT 1964 Ford Falcon Convertible Promo With Original Box, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare promotional in superb condition and includes the original box. This model was obtained new on Feb. 11, 1965 by a discriminating adult collector in Lexington KY. It has never even been displayed - it has been in the box since it left the factory. The color and gloss are factory new. The chrome and clear are 'near mint.' There is no body warp. I would grade this one 9.8 out of 10 with 10 being flawless. I hesitate to grade anything 'perfect' because these were not flawless from the factory. The original box is complete and 'good+' with general age wear. On one end is factory stamped "FALCON CONV. RANGOON RED."

Jo-Han 1970 AMC Hornet Promo, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare promotional in superb condition. This model was obtained in the very early 1970s by a discriminating adult collector in Lexington KY. The promo has never even been displayed or played with . The color and gloss are factory new. The chrome is 'near mint.' There is no body warp and the clear is in 'near mint' condition. I would grade this one 9.5 out of 10 with 10 being flawless. The deduction is for very light box roof scuffs. It comes with an old, original style box but the box is NOT original to the kit. "1970 Cadillac" is factory stamped on the short side.

Saunders Swadar 1914 Mercedes Race Car - Classics of Road and Track, 1/16, 1914-K

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare and from the early/mid 1950s. Although simple by modern standards, this model was a big increase in quality from the toy-like Highway Pioneers...not to mention the big 1/16 scale (HP were 1/32). Features an engine, removable hood, rolling chassis and interior, but all with a low part count. Very nicely molded in gloss white and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes 'excellent' instructions and even the remains of the factory 'krinkle' bag that the parts were formerly sealed in. Sanders Swadar was a toy company out of Aurora, Illinois and a division of Saunders Tool & Die Company in the same town. Saunders decided to go into the plastic model business some time in the early 1950s, no doubt inspired by the Highway Pioneers and the rush to market that followed that. Other 'construction kits' listed on the instructions at the time of this release are Bell Helicopter with Pontoons, Bell Helicopter with Landing Skids, USN Tandem Rotor Helicopter, USN Aircraft Carrier with Catapult and Planes (CV38), Fairchild Pack Plane with Tank and Jeep and 1/16 1912 Mercer Race Car. Please note that other than the Mercer, the other models have a toy-like quality to them...so this is a very early release as the other true-scale Swadar models had yet to be released. Actually, very few kits appeared with the full 'Saunders Swader' name - most simply said 'Swadar.' In total there was a small but significant line of aircraft and a few large (1/16) scale car kits as well as a famous tractor model. Most or all of these kits were available until the mid 1950s, when Swadar discontinued production. At some point Lindberg acquired these molds although it does not appear to have been in the 1950s or even the 1960s. The earliest Lindberg releases appear to be 1977 - so until older issues show up, we can speculate on where the molds were until then and how Lindberg obtained them!
