Ragwings Pfalz E-I - Bagged, 1/72, 081

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Sold

Still factory sealed. Very limited production kit - one of about 100 ever made. Very high quality resin castings with metal details and full decals for two aircraft. I have received the following information from Jeff Stockham on this rare kit: 'Regarding the Ragwings Fokker D.VI you have for sale, I can provide some additional background info on this kit. The company was formed and owned by Marty Snow (dba MGS Enterprises) of Rochester, NY; Marty did the masters for the Pfalz E-1 and Bristol Scout D; I did the master for the Fokker D.VI (modifying some parts from Revell's Dr.I and D.VII and scratchbuilding some) and I did the artwork for all the backing cards, decals and instructions, as well as the small print ads that appeared in FineScale Modeler and other magazines. I was halfway though the master for a really accurate Albatros D.V/D.VA when other events interfered, other makers came out with the same items, momentum slowed, and Marty eventually closed up the business. The actual production of both the resin and metal copies was subcontracted to Ted Paris of Commanders Series Inc, Rochester NY; I think that Decal Master printed the decals. In all the years since, I have never seen one of these for sale. I know Marty marketed them directly to retail buyers via mail order ads in FSM; I don't know how many he actually sold, but it wasn't enough to make it worth the effort. These have to be among of the rarest short-run resin kits ever. I never did build one of these D.VI's up, but I do remember that it got a very positive review in one of the British modeling magazines (I think it was Windsock.)'

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Still factory sealed. Recent reissue of the classic 1960s kit featuring all laser cut balsa parts, scale plastic radial engine and cowl, plastic wheels and prop, a full set of decals, tissue covering, rubber motor, firewall, super detailed plans and more. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Pyro Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Oyster Boat 'Carrie Price', 1/60, 269-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

From the very early 1960s and an excellent kit for that time. Features full hull, optional position keel, optional position cabin and deck hatch if you wish to super-detail the insides, full deck fittings, two detailed small boats, railings and life rings, furled sails (as shown on box art) and an excellent un-retouched photograph of the finished model that serves as a rigging diagram. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today. Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. Please the read the articles about Pyro Kit History and Pyro's founder, who was a pioneer in modern injection molding. Both are located on this website.
